In about 98 at a clann gathering-thats Scottish just in case, we had a family show up that were black and were offspring from the name.

Black haired and BLUE eyes. It often happened back in the day when slavery was going on...

Nice folks really and the non Brits attending accepted them with open arms. The Scots? Not so much.

We hall got together after the ceilidh and when pub hopping. The Aussies, N Zeds and we Americans. Boy did I get hammered and really suffered for a day after that one.

The Scots still a little uptight about that sorta thing? In America, it’s just a fact. Lotsa Blacks in the Carolinas have my mother’s (Scottish) maiden name. Probably quite a few related to me. It is what it is.

That’s very funny; good for everyone else for accepting them as kin. Scots aren’t a tolerant bunch...towards anyone (including other Scots).

Good Story!
I have partied w Brits and Aussies w much the same penalty to pay days after (but the worst was the Greek Merchant Marines and a bunch of very closely watched Russian Sailors, next day my head wanted to explode if an ant tripped over a dust mite 20 feet from me)
Old now... learned many lessons, only had to chew my arm off once, good thing God gave us 3 arms, am I right or am I right?
(I don’t know cause I don’t remember which one I had to chew off)

Interesting. I'm a 'black' Scot. When I worked in England I had the exact opposite experience. When I was first introduced to the crew, the Scots heard my surname and said to me, "Over here. You're a Scot."
