Democrats believe they have set the stage to block President Trumps legislative priorities for years to come by winning major concessions in a spending bill to keep the government open.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) secured nearly $5 billion in new domestic spending by exploiting disagreements between President Trump and GOP lawmakers over spending priorities.
Democrats lopsided victory on the five-month deal, which is likely to be approved this week, means it will be very difficult if not impossible for the GOP to exert its will in future budget negotiations, including when it comes to Trumps 2018 budget blueprint.

Trump will allow the DC swamp critters to eff over of this country once again if he signs this budget. If he signs it, he might as well resign because that will be the end of his political career, guaranteed. Ironic how the DC swamp just continues to get bigger and stronger.
“Schumer and Pelosi have ZERO leverage”
Name one Republican in Congress that has ever stood up to Pelosi and the Democrats. Republicans have majorities in both houses and the presidency.
Yet Republicans in Congress cower like little babies. All Pelosi has to do is snap her fingers and her little Republican bitches cower in fear.
Name one Republican in a leadership position in Congress who is not a lying, two faced coward.
I've only heard a quote from Spicer saying the President is pleased with what he got in the deal.
Just keep playing in your sandbox. The men have this.
Sean Spicer commented on the budget and calls it a win.
Not “US”;. that’s for sure and certain...sadly.
Trump should remind RINOS of the sage warning of GW Bush when he declared, “Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists”.
msm fake news
From the article:
"We cant pass anything without them, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), a top deputy to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), said of Democrats recently.
Is this fake, or did Cornyn mean this?
Great. If I didn’t have to go to work at 10 I’d open a bottle.
####.
Not so fast.
First, it’s the WAPO ‘giving’ the democrats some sort of ‘win’. WAPO is a thoroughly discredited left-wing rag.
Second, there is chatter that the language of the spending bill allows the President to focus specific efforts within broader categories.
For example, under a general category of border enforcement, the President may designate funds be spent on beefing up physical border structures, in other words, the Wall.
Had the President insisted on a separate category for Wall Construction, the democrats would not have voted for it. So there may be some subtleties that are not very well known. Hope I am right on all this.
Trump should VETO the bill and FORCE the (the GOPe) to override it. I’m ready for this fight and could care less about any over-hyped govt shutdown.
Trump needs to veto it and shut the whole thing down. (He won’t)
“There should be a ban against posting WP fake news.”
The same people ranting and raving that we are losing because the WP said so, spent the last 2 years calling the WP fake news!! They keep saying that Trump promised that ALL this will get done in the first days of his Presidency...anybody over the age of 12 who believed that could happen in DC should be fitted for a straight jacket...and fast:)
I want my WALL!!
I want my tax cut!!
I want 13 million illegals out now!!
I got news for you, you won’t get a 2,000 mile long wall, you’ll get maybe 400 miles and the rest will be a very good fence. And if you think anybody can get all the illegals out, forget it. Trump will do the best he can. Problem is he doesn’t have enough support in Congress to get it done in full.
The nasty little secret is that if you sent all the illegals packing tomorrow, areas like South Florida, L.A. etc... would go into a recession. When you have a million illegals in 3 counties, you have the support structure for all those people...teachers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, administrators, etc....that’s a lot of jobs and most of them have big, fat mortgages; all those good paying jobs gone; all those overpriced houses and condos in foreclosure.
That’s why when push comes to shove, you have to do it in stages; the local economies will not survive any other way.
Nuke, McCain, Graham, Ryan, McConnell, all the RINOS!!!!
Wait till the Dems find out that they have to answer to their constituents.
I suspect that he’s going to sign it because he needs more time to A: get all of his appointments confirmed and B: deal with the North Korea situation.
I like to think of it as Fabius Maximus v. Hannibal during the 2nd Punic War. In a straight-up battle, the Romans couldn’t beat Hannibal, and every time they tried they got thoroughly beaten down.
But in the end, Fabius managed to beat Hannibal, not by military might but by slowly starving his army instead and avoiding major confrontations until Hannibal was forced to retreat back to Carthage. (Massive simplification, but it’s a really fascinating read.)
Anyways, that’s kind of like the situation that Trump is dealing with at the moment. He vetoes this bill and he risks a high-stakes political battle before he’s ready. If they override his veto on this, Trump’s presidency is pretty much over in any legislative sense. He may have to retreat from this proverbial battle until he’s managed to force his appointments through the Senate, at the very least.
Referring to the President as God-Emperor Trump may be amusing, especially the liberal reactions, but to be realistic it’s all but open warfare in DC. We may have to take some lumps before this war turns around.
But at least we have a fighter now. So far, the President has kept an enormous number of his promises, tried to keep others, and is in the process of keeping still others. I can’t believe that he would betray us. It’s just that the reality of political warfare is far more complex than we here on FR would like it to be.
“Im ready for this fight and could care less about any over-hyped govt shutdown.”
You gonna shut the government down twice in 5 months..why don’t you just send Chuckie Schumer a dozen roses and a big kiss:)
That's the thing. This CR isn't like the last CRs. It ends right at the end of the Fiscal Year 2017, meaning that we can finally get back on regular, annual budgets going forward instead of this action-movie we-gotta-pass-it crap. It is not an election-year.
Let the Dems stew in their complacency until the real budget comes up.
The leverage they had was 60 votes or bust.
