Weve already seen that repealing Obamacare is politically perilous. Now theres a new complication: It may also violate international law.
The United Nations has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing the Affordable Care Act without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States. It turns out that the notion that health care is a right is more than just a Democratic talking point.
A confidential, five-page urgent appeal from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner on Human Rights in Geneva, sent to the Trump administration, cautions that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act could put the United States at odds with its international obligations. The Feb. 2 memo, which I obtained Tuesday, was sent to the State Department and expresses serious concern about the prospective loss of health coverage for almost 30 million people, which could violate the right to social security of the people in the United States.

FTUN!
Translation = Obama’s swamp hacks are finding work at the United Nations. Possibly a mid Atlantic office in his server filled basement run by Valerie Jarrett.
Let the UN fund it then.
I spotted the writer’s name: Dana Milbank.
Moved right along to post this.
Excellent example of libtard logic and more good evidence for the push to get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.
Telling the UN to take a effin flying leep off a tall building comes to mind. If this is true it never have reached President Trump and stopped at our UN ambassador. Where was she in this laughable discussion?
It violates UN law? Well I don’t think we needed this but I suppose it’s nice to have one more reason to repeal this turkey!
Sounds like she is full of it, just like the paper she works for.
The International Laws of Sovereignty say that the UN can stick their foolish musings up their collective rectum.
How to build the wall - tell the UN to ‘Go F Yourself.’ The money that goes to the UN can go to the wall...
Hey, UN, let’s talk about Kim Jong Un and the health care rights of *his* people.
I think it is about time to let the UN know the USA is a sovereign nation and if they do not like it we will cut off their funding.
Why bother voting? No need for congress.
Maybe the UN can intervene during the next Berkeley riot.
Obamacare is not “health care”; it’s insurance that rations socialized medicine. We had guaranteed medical care before Obamacare, since emergency rooms could not turn people away. It’s harder for those people to get actual medical care now. The correct conclusion is that Obamacare violates international law (and it violates the Constitution, but that never bothers democrats).
Well...Bye...
I remind my fellow Freepers who flamed me for comments he made to the members of the U.N. Security Council who were all invited to have dinner at the White House - a custom when the U.S. takes the rotating presidency of the council.
Trump was effusive of all the “great work” of the U.N. and the even greater work he hoped it would do in the future.
I said that if Trump believed all that he says we have a problem because the U.N. is the last place we want to get more involved and more powerful in the world.
I was flamed for not admitting what a “great” speech it was.
Giving, or even wanting, the U.N. more to do and more power has zero, zilch interest to the well being of the United States.
Throw the trash out on their face.
