Who Really Controls the Modern Democratic Party?
American Thinker.com ^ | April 25, 2017 | Brian C. Joondeph

Politically, the Democratic Party is the home of progressivism, or liberalism. At least today’s Democratic Party. JFK, a Democrat from fifty years ago, would be politically to the right of many current Republicans. Compared to today’s Democrats, JFK would be in Trump territory.

Conventional wisdom views the media as the public relations arm of the Democratic Party. Commonly referred to as “Democrat party operatives with bylines,” big media trumpets the progressives' message 24-7, from the nation’s major newspapers, network news shows, and most cable outlets, with a few exceptions, such as at Fox News. But where is the mothership of progressivism? The media, or the Democratic Party? Or is it something larger?

Rush Limbaugh, self-described as “the big voice on the right,” recently revised his thinking on Democrats and the media. His new view is that, “the Democrats are an arm of the media, not that the media is an arm of the Democrats.” Not just a chicken-and-egg argument, but an actual reversal of the conventional wisdom. “The foundational base of the progressive movement is in the nationwide media,” according to Rush.

This makes sense as politicians are a bit like dogs, cozying up to whoever is offering them a piece of meat. In the case of politicians, the meat is money, position and power. What better way to advance one’s political career than to be booked on friendly Sunday talk shows with Chuck Todd or George Stephanopoulos, or be the subject of a flattering puff piece in the Washington Post? Buck the media and kiss your political career goodbye, at least if you are a Democrat. How many Democrats publicly opposed the progressive Obama agenda, whether on Obamacare, the Iran nuke deal, or his far left judicial nominations?

A very interesting question. I have doubt that any of us know the names of those truly in control. Those kind of people do not want their names known.

The Democratic Party is the Party of the Left both culturally and politically. It is far more socialist than capitalist, celebrates collectivism rather than individual accomplishment, agnostic rather than religious, celebrates open homosexuality and all its permutations, unrestricted abortion, achieves emotional gratification from earth and celebrity worship, embraces pornography, hedonism and drug use. The political divide is so vast because the cultural divide is so deep. The question to be decided over the next twenty five years will be just where the loyalties and values of the majority of the American people come to rest. Either it will be with the Democrats or the more traditional but imperfect Republicans. If the Democrats come to dominate and achieve primacy, doubt America as many have known and loved it will survive. The stakes are very high.

Correct! And many of them; too many to account for (but we now have data processing) so you have to keep watching!

“At least today’s Democratic Party. JFK, a Democrat from fifty years ago, would be politically to the right of many current Republicans.” …
“… [S]houldn’t someone tag Mr. Kennedy’s bold new imaginative program with its proper age? Under that tousled boyish haircut is still old Karl Marx—first launched a century ago. There is nothing new in the idea of a Government being Big Brother to us all. Hitler called his ‘State Socialism’, and way before him it was ‘benevolent monarchy.’”

— Ronald Reagan on JFK, 1960 letter to Richard Nixon

Funny that when it is claimed that JFK was “to the right” of RINOs on certain issues, those issues are not specified.

The article states that John Kennedy was more conservative than many current Republicans. What were the differences between Republicans and Democrats between 1950 & ‘70? I know that a higher percentage of Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. What were the other differences between the parties? When and why did the Democrats become more liberal? I used google, to find that information, but that didn’t help.

Some people are possessed by Satan, who lives inside of them.

Some people are possessed by the Holy Spirit who lives inside of them.

By their fruits ye shall know them.

Limbaugh has to be right: The Democratic Party is an arm of the media. What could produce such an utterly vacuous organization but a vocation devoted to the daily production of phoniness? It's a corollary of Limbaugh's earlier dictum that only those whose careers were created through the approval of the media can be destroyed by the media.

It also follows from Marshall McLuhan ("The medium is the message") and Andy Warhol ("15 minutes of fame"). People are desperate for that 15 minutes because it confers such disproportionate advantage. People can become famous and powerful (if they play their cards right) for being merely famous.

The rest, regrettably, is hard work. As Wood Allen pointed out, "Eighty percent of life is showing up."

Phil,
UAW and UMW pretty much ran the Democrat party in the 1950s and 60s.

Teamsters (not in AFL-CIO) often went Republican. Building Trades occasionally went Republican. NEA controlled many Rockefeller Republicans. In Illinois NEA controlled most Republicans. Republican Sec of Education Lynn Martin and Republican Congressman and Presidential candidate John Anderson, both of Rockford were controlled by NEA. From Gov Stratton to Gov Ryan, Teachers unions controlled Republican Governors.

Don’t blame the current teachers pension crisis on Madigan. The blame falls directly on Ogilvie-Thompson-Edgar-Ryan who bought teachers union support.

Gov Dan Walker was actually considered anti-union.

If I'm not mistaken 30 years ago there were 50 plus owners of the various major media in this Country.

Today, currently, there are SIX FAMILIES that control all the major media.

We here that it is the Murdoch family that guide and control FOX.

WHY are all the rest simply referred to a the MSM?

My point: WHO are the FAMILIES behind ABC, NBC, CBS, etc???

Why are the people making the decisions NOT to cover a story or publish certain details being revealed as the NAMED individuals controlling the news cycle?

When FOX does something we either BLAME or APPLAUD the Murdochs.

WHO are the FAMILIES controlling the others???

WHY are those other families NEVER mentioned by name???
