That’s good news. Thanks Ray.
So far it’s OK. My husband isn’t one to ever say anything positive, so I guess it’s as good as can be. He’s not complaining all that much. And I think he does get tired being in the basement. Now he wants to put a desk in the sunroom. Which would mean I couldn’t use it through the day But if it makes him Happy to be able to look outside, that will be fine.
Funny thing though, he is gotten a call a week to do home inspections. That’s what he was doing before. He was trying a new marketing gimmick, bringing candy glued to his business card to each realtors office. If he decides to go back to home inspections, he has the method for advertising down. And it’s only mid April and raining, not a real big selling time for real estate around here :-)
He hasn’t had to go on travel yet, if there’s a lot of that then I think the complaining will start Tonight I’m going to sit down and make a spreadsheet of exactly how much money this job is bringing in. Maybe I can narrow down how many years he would have to work.
Orange shag?!
How retro!
;-)
I have two mint green bathrooms - and I love it!
One has a new white toilet so eventually I’ll have to find a replacement vintage mint one to replace it.
We’ve been here full time for almost three years now, and I’m glad I’ve waited to work on a lot of things because I’ve changed my mind after living in the house.
Do you find yourself doing that, CottonBall?
I’m so sorry about your dad, MB, and your friend, granny.
It seems we are hearing more and more about Alzheimer’s or dementia. I think as people are living longer, our brains just start keeping up. My mother has had dementia for probably 15 years now, and now it’s to the point where she doesn’t even recognize people. But I do think it’s hardest on her husband, who has And I don’t really take over all the household duties she can’t be trusted to use the stove anymore or to even know how to vacuum but have to take care of her, keep her locked in the house, make sure she takes her medicine, it’s like dealing with a stubborn big child. I don’t know how he does it.

” But I bet yours couldve found it in a book!”
LOL Bet he could have, too.
I know what you mean by the God complex, have experienced that in the past too.
Thanks!
Lol! Me, either!
I was wondering the same thing - some kind of surgery on vocal chords?
Who knows.
I avoid surgery like the plague!
I’ve always had nice doctors but I don’t like going to see them!
Wow, Ray!
You’ve been busy this morning!
It’s not even 9:00 and I’ve gotta go back and catch up!
Yes I do! There are things about how things were built in the 70s that I actually find I like better than new construction.
Mint green sounds pretty. Ours are avocado. :(. I actually like the blue though, it’s a happy light blue color.
The thing I liked about the old kitchen was the corner. The cabinets are all short show today’s boxes of cereal couldn’t even fit in there, so keeping those cabinets wasn’t an option. Plus they didn’t go all the way to the ceiling.
But the corner units were awesome, too and bottom.. It was just two cabinets put together with the corner section open to both doors next to it, so you could store things in it. It wasn’t the easiest to reach but it was a very good use of the space. And cheaply done. When we got the new cabinets my only choice was a Lazy Susan or to have the corner blocked off. I didn’t even get the option of having it open without something very expensive minute! in the Lazy Susan doesn’t make great use of the space either. Although I have to admit, it is handy. But it was an outrageous sum!
Now our house is just a plain old 70s box. Nothing fancy, none of those pretty architectural features of older homes. So there’s not much else to love about it
Where are you living? Is this something that was a vacation home?
I feel like I’m always having to catch up here. If I get up to go get a glass of water, then I missed something! :-)
I just made a similar post on another thread about the shoe being on the other foot. The republicans were blamed for the government shutdown when Rand and Cruz filibustered over funding obamacare. As far as Trump goes, I think he figures he can get the tax cuts through, and healthcare, and he could use some of the general border security money for what little work would be done on it until September when the next budget fight comes up.
New York Daily News-
I think I’ve seen the blue color you’ve got and it’s pretty, but avocado isn’t my favorite, either. (I do love the gold color that was used in the seventies, though.)
Ours is 88 years old and in the foothills west of Denver. There are lots of old buildings here because it’s dry and wood doesn’t rot.
It’s simple, so not a lot of architectural features, but it’s on a hill so there are three levels. One level is only a bedroom with its (minty!) bath.
My kitchen was added after the first part of the house and the back of the fireplace is in it, which gives it character. The original cabinets (probably 40’s or so?) are still in it. They are so well made that I want to keep them, even though they aren’t as nice as new cabinets. Guess I’m sentimental!
It wasn’t exactly a vacation home. My husband was close to retiring and there was a downturn in the housing market here so we tightened our belts and bought. It made for a few tight years, but was worth it. (A perk was that we could come out to Colorado for Christmas and I could stay summers!)
Just wow.
Ivanka booed?
Were they all raised in barns?
Me, too!
You peeps are too fast for me!
:-)
It sounds delightful, I love those three-story houses that I see. I’m sure it has a lot more character than our plain box :-)
And a fireplace in the kitchen is perfect! I really wanted a woodstove in mind, just to add to the rustic feel. Plus to try to cook and, in case we had a power outage or economic collapse. I like to be prepared :-)
What is your view like, being on a hill?
Pictures would be appreciated :-)
Your poor mom and her husband, so terribly heartbreaking.
I know what you mean by “hardest on her husband”, my BIL had to take away my sis’ car as she got lost one day and ended up in Tucson from Mesa then couldn’t find her way home, she doesn’t do the cooking anymore either. But she still can carry on a one-on-one conversation and stay focused to a point. She is lost in a group and just goes silent. She still finds joy in living, visited her on her 73rd birthday a week ago, and her spirits were high. BIL has really had to change his lifestyle, avid fisherman and hunter, to spend more time with her and her care. Thankfully, 5 of their 7 children live close and are always willing to help out.
Our friends have it a lot rougher. She still recognizes family and a few very close friends but she has moments that she literally goes wild, she is an itty-bitty lady or she could really do her hubby some serious damage. He has shared some really scary experiences with us. She is in better physical health than he is and caring for her is really taking its toll on him. Does have someone coming in 3 times a week to help.
It’s been called “the long goodbye” for a good reason.

Not so lucky as to have a fireplace in the kitchen! It’s only the closed back of the brick fireplace and the beginning of the chimney.
But it’s cute!
(Actually, it takes up valuable room because my kitchen is small, but who’s complaining?)
I’ll try to post a photo or two sometime!
