Border Lawmakers Balk at Donald Trump’s Wall Request
wsj.com ^ | April 21, 2017

Not a single member of Congress who represents the territory on the southwest border said they support President Donald Trump’s request for $1.4 billion to begin construction of his promised wall, according to a Wall Street Journal survey, testing the administration’s ability to reach a deal on government funding next week.

Most lawmakers representing the region—both Democrats and Republicans—said they are opposed and many said they have unanswered questions. A few were noncommittal, but not a single member of the House or Senate representing the region expressed support for the funding request. That includes nine members of the House and eight senators across four states: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Still, the White House is holding firm on its position.

“You’re always going to have constituencies within both parties that have local issues—we get that,” Mick Mulvaney, the head of the Office of Management and Budget, said in an interview. He added that the GOP leadership is on board to fight for the funding because “they know it’s a priority for the president.”

So what? I was not aware that the representatives from those 4 states were placed in charge of determining security policy for the entire nation. Cruz and Cornyn are both globalist, cheap labor express stooges in my view. Cornyn is GOPe to the core and much, much worse than Cruz. Cruz at least seems to listen and change bad positions if he catches enough grief.

The illegals shop as well and go back and forth to work. They just don’t have BCCs. A wall will reduce cross border traffic.

Look, I know how Freepers feel about Ted Cruz but please do some research. He wants a wall. It’s in his website and in public statements. McCain and Lamar Smith are two who don’t

THERE IS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING

How many have family members here who are illegals or have friends or acquaintances who are illegals?

How many have family members with a business or business arrangement that profits them from illegals?

How many rely on votes from illegals who vote to help get them elected?

How many rely on votes from legal Hispanics who want open borders so their illegal friends and relatives can travel here freely?

Any chance Ted Cruz lied when he said he was in favor of the wall?

I thought Mexico was paying for the wall?

Why do we need Congress to allocate money?

Was President Trump telling a lie when he said Mexico was going to pay for it?

Does the article have a list of the Senators and Representatives that have said NO? I cannot find it

The reason the walls in China and Germany works/worked, is there were guns pointed at them if they crossed.

Yep and if you build a wall on our Southern border if you do not put guns on it you are just pissin in the wind if you think it is a fix all. AND many on FR think it is. Idiots

Establishment politicians, and let’s face it, Left or Right, they are almost ALL of then establishment, will always be in favor of open borders and the Globalist economy. The elite pay for their campaigns and pay for their positions. The elite wealthy keep the elite politicians in power...so much so that very few who are not on board, regardless of party.

The cheap labor they import live with tax support in their elite core urban areas, where only the educated young, immigrants and the wealthy elite of the global intellectual economy can live. The old blue collar and the old middle class, mostly white, are pushed out in favor of the immigrant cheap labor that trims their big gardens, paints their mansions, takes care of their babies’ diapers, cleans their homes and swimming pools and serves their meals.

Middle class and blue collar types are not required in their new globalist economy...it’s all Californication...Uber-wealthy elite, immigrant poor and young educated hipster poor. The rest of us can go eat cake. And both parties and both ideologies (Left and right) have bought into this new economy.
