President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans who control Congress face their first major budget test next week, with the threat of a U.S. government shutdown potentially hinging on his proposed Mexican border wall as well as Obamacare funding.
With Republicans controlling the White House and both chambers of Congress, keeping the federal government operating is a basic test of their ability to govern, but their task could become even more complicated if they insist on using the spending legislation to bring about contentious policy changes.
Not only must Republicans overcome intraparty ideological divisions that stopped major healthcare legislation last month, but they will have to win over some opposition Democrats with provisions that could be distasteful to conservatives.
With the Senate reconvening on Monday and the House of Representatives on Tuesday after a two-week recess, lawmakers will have only four days to pass a spending package to keep the government open beyond April 28, when funding expires for numerous federal programs.

Message to Republicans: it doesn’t matter what you do, Federal and almost all State workers are not going to vote for you.
They have always known this was coming up. If they didn’t have it worked out before now they deserve everything they get......
I have never understood why this is an emergency a couple days before the deadline when it is known to be coming for a very long time.
At the Federal level, there are literally thousands of loyalists who have been hired to positions they were never qualified to be near, during the past 8 years. Not only will they vote against any Republican in any election, they will work all day long, everyday, to make any Republican they now work for, look as bad as they can make that person look.
I suspect that if the demoncraps force a shutdown, Trump won’t allow barriers to be erected around monuments nor the locking of gates at national parks.
There you go — great plan!
Shut it down...who cares. Just don’t retro - pay the fed “workers”. Usually these meta-slackers get a paid vacay.
If it shuts down the welfare checks won’t get out on time and people will die. It will be the end of the world as we know it.
So it’s Republican’s fault if they’re the minority or majority, if they’re the ones blocking or being blocked.
We’re screwed with this media, never going to get a fair shake.
