This evening, all eyes were on the special election in Georgias Sixth Congressional District as Democrats were hoping to flip the seat that has been held by Republicans for decades. The seat recently opened up after Republican Tom Price left to take over as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Going into the night, Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff was way up in the polls as a number of GOP hopefuls threw their hats into the ring. However, despite the fact that he was polling in the mid-40s, roughly 30 points ahead of his nearest opponent, Ossoff and Democrats knew he needed to get more support in order to gain at least 50% and avoid a runoff.
In the end, Ossoff ended up pulling in less than 50%, with totals showing him at 48.6% after a huge dump of votes came in from Fulton County around midnight, leading to numerous outlets to project this as heading to a runoff.

100% true. Trump would not have won the Nom with fewer GOP in the primaries. BUT he won the head to head against HRC. I don’t think this kid wins round two.
One thing I learned about multi-candidate races. You might have won with 35% of the vote in a field of 5, but that means that 65% don’t like you.
If he had $8 million bucks, I guarantee you, as a demonRAT, he would not blow it on a run off to a short term special House election.
Yea, it was all outside money like Hollywood, Soros etc..
The northern 'burbs are affluent and a great escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
Typical of the northern side of Fulton County is Alpharetta. Median household income of $92K a year, 70% white, 13% asian, 11% black, 9% latino.
Some beautiful rolling hills with elegant homes throughout the Alpharetta area.
Census data quick facts for Alpharetta. And the wiki entry.
One that KNEW he’d be able to get that $8M back in spades. That one.
The objective was to stop Ossoff from receiving 50% of the vote forcing a runoff. The Dems ran 5 candidates plus there was an independent. The more candidates, the harder it is to get 50% of the vote. Trump found that out in the primary.
Four Reps got most of the non-Ossoff vote. Turnout was higher than expected. There will be a runoff.
If the past is a guide, a number of them have been funded by Democrats or past confirmed Democrat donors.
Many of the rest were anti-Trump RINOs trying to provide the Democrats with their assistance.
I think the GOPe-ers making the decisions WANT to lose. Trump’s Tweets made the difference, especially when it was learned that the Dem candidate didn’t even live in the contested district.
Price was an incumbent. He also did much better than Trump in the district. Trump barely won it.
Agree...sure was a lot of bashing Trump going on, last night, about his tweets.
GOPe is the Dem lapdog. Trump’s merely doing their job, since they don’t.
He didn't have anywhere near that money on his own. His $8,000,000 (I heard closer to $9mil) came primarily from Kalifornia (san Francisco) New York and oddly Maine. 95% of what he raised came from outside of GA. The Republican in the runoff, Karen Handel, is a solid GOPe RINO. Of all the Republicans running she was by head and shoulders the worst of the lot. anti-gun (former Chamber of Commerce executive) among her other ties to the GOPe. Still better a piece of RINO sh!t than the smarmy lying through he teeth ultra liberal democrat.
And BTW the media is spinning this as a win for the Democrats and a defeat for Trump.
For that matter Handel could still lose to the liberal democrat in the June runoff if the lame, thumbs up their collective butts GOP doesn't get out the vote.
---> Ossof underperformed Hillary by about half a percent in the district.
And the Republican who won has distanced herself from President Trump. Will Trump supporters turn out to support a Boehner-like candidate?
The party of stupid.
Now the real fun begins and while Handel is GOPe she is far and away better than this lying sack o' democrap. The election day media revelation of his residence outside of the district should be fun to play with, although the main focus should be on the issues, his allegiances and his incompetence.
A fool who knows that the level of graft and corruption in government "service" will return far more than that in a few short years...
Because anyone who can cough up whatever fees are necessary to qualify for the ballot can run for any elective office. People put themselves on the ballot and oftentimes the Party bigwigs in a state and/or district can't convince them not to.
Some of those 11 candidates may have been closet Dems deliberately trying to split the vote. Also, Republicans notoriously and openly tend to squabble among themselves. Everyone man jack of them thinks only they have all the right answers.
Fulton county is urban black in the south - suburban white in the north. Handel is a solid RINO GOPe
He didn’t spend $8 million of his own money. I don’t know where that is coming from, it is fake news. The national Dems anointed this guy over the other 4 Dems in the race and poured tons of money into his campaign. He is not independently wealthy.
It was not a statewide race. There are three congressional districts that always vote Democrat because of the way the districts were drawn. The 6th district has been reliably Republican for 30+ years, but Trump barely won it in November.
It’s simple. They are in it for their cut of the loot. Independent minded conservatives with a goal to actually do something, and lead the country are a threat to the uni-party money-train. Remember the collusion of globalism, crony-capitalism and socialism that has been running this country starting with algore’s reinventing America. They still want to be in control
