“It will be interesting if internet sleuths are able to match up the terrain.”
Three factors make it difficult: The IR color scape is hard to match with what’s visible to the naked eye; the scale of features is difficult to ascertain, making it hard to know how much to zoom in on the map; and seasonal differences between the video and images in Google Maps may include things like snow, varying river water levels, wet vs dry streambeds, etc.
Almost 100 dead from your surmised fake show of force.

Ah-ah-ah-ah! Leave that twisty, fakey stuff to Georgie Stephanopoulus and the drive-bys. I never said it was faked. I said I could not see any steering going on; that once out of the airplane the weapon appeared to drop straight down. I doubted they could roll the weapon out, and disengage it from the pallet, so precisely “dead nuts” over the exact tunnel they wanted to hit. I had no doubt they blew the BLEEP out of SOMEthing, but was having brain cramps trying to believe it was that precise a drop that it didn’t appear to NEED much steering. I couldn’t see any in the video. With the further explanation given in today’s thread, my brain cramps have subsided some, but my gullibility meter won’t settle down.
The AF says $16,000 a copy . Then there’s shipping.
Update April 16th via Fox News. 94 ISIS fighters confirmed dead. Including four commanders.
Message: Stay home in Pakistan and be REMFers.
Allah wahoo Whack bar!
It's good for tunnels, because the massive blast will follow all the way into the tunnel seeking unburned oxygen, and the blast sucks all of the oxygen out of the tunnels.
I was reading that in fact it is not thermobaric or fuel air but a traditional load of 11,000bs of RDX.
“I was reading that in fact it is not thermobaric or fuel air but a traditional load of 11,000bs of RDX.”
GlobalSecurity.org reports:
“The 21,700-pound [9,500 kilogram] bomb contains 18,700 pounds of H6, an explosive that is a mixture of RDX (Cyclotrimethylene trinitramine), TNT, and aluminum. H6 is used by the military for general purpose bombs. H6 is an Australian produced explosive composition. Composition H6 is a widely used main charge filling for underwater blast weapons such as mines, depth charges, torpedoes and mine disposal charges. HBX compositions (HBX-1, HBX-3, and H6) are aluminized (powdered aluminum) explosives used primarily as a replacement for the obsolete explosive, torpex. They are employed as bursting charges in mines, depth bombs, depth charges, and torpedoes. HBX-3 and H-6 have lower sensitivity to impact and much higher explosion test temperatures than torpex. The MOAB weapon produces a very large explosive blast, with lesser fragmentation effects due to a thin-walled aluminum casing.
Contrary to some published claims, it most certainly is not an Ethylene-Oxide Fuel-Air Explosive (FAE).”
Because it is a powdered explosive, some dispersal can be engineered by design, before and during ignition (milliseconds). They do get the kind of high impulse pressure blast and rebound “vacuum” effects for which thermobaric weapons are famous, but I don’t know if it technically qualifies as “thermobaric”. The high pressure (baric) effect is probably the main feature of this weapon.
It blows big shit up.
This MOAB bomb was estimated to carry 21,600 lbs of TNT. LINK
That is 10.53 tons of TNT. (1 ton = 2000 pounds)
Definition of a kiloton: LINK
The Hiroshima bomb was pegged at 15 thousand tons of TNT and the Nagasaki bomb was pegged at 21 thousand tons of TNT. LINK

May the Force be with you.
My ex-USAF sweetie, a former warthawg mechanic with a continuing professional interest in all things close air support, tells me that the MC-130 Talon II version of the C-130 is the preferred aircraft platform, since the C-17, though having the capacity and capable of flying the required flight profile, has yet to be certified for GBU-43 delivery. They haven't figured out a way to sling one under an A-10. Yet.

Well, you go up the St Lawrence Seaway, into Lake Ontario, through the Erie Canal, into Lake Erie, past Toledo and Detroit, up across Lake Huron, into Lake Michigan....and hang a hard left and cruise all the way down to Chicago.
Ya can't miss it.
BOOM!
A USAF Combat Talon MC-130H version of the C-130 Hercules is not exactly a sitting duck.
So how could you really use it effectively?
In the case of the Afghans, tell them it's the final delivery of their humanitarian aid from the Obama Administration; prayer rugs, caps, medicine and so forth. Add in a few bags of seasoned pork rinds just as a little something extra.
In the case of North Korea, tell them it's a birthday present for birthday boy and former Dear Leader Kim Il Sun from Americal actress Kim Ill Novak [she was unable to attend due to a cold] and again, include a token present. In this case, I'd suggest a copy of the Disney World theme song It's a small world after all.
It appears to be a John Deere product.
Pity we haven't dropped a couple on the ISIS forces in Syria. Or are we supporting them by bombing the Syrians instead?
The powdered aluminum(aluminum oxide) is the oxydizer. On further research I found that the MOAB is RDX based and not a true Fuel Air/Thermobaric weapon but has some characteristics of one.
