Syrian forces fighting the Islamic State called in a U.S. air strike on their own men, resulting in 18 deaths, according to the Pentagon.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a U.S.-backed group fighting ISIS in northern and eastern Syria, requested the strike on what they thought was an ISIS position just south of the city of Taqbah April 11.
The SDF are one of the primary coalition partners fighting ISIS in Syria. Approximately 500 U.S. special operations forces are embedded with the SDF and other anti-ISIS groups in Syria. It is unclear if a U.S. operator was embedded with the SDF unit that

Rebels are just regular jihadist.
In order to read a map, you must first learn how to read...opps...
The SDF (composed mostly of KURDS) are fighting ISIS effectively and are thus allied with the U.S.. But it would be wrong to call them, or conflate them with, “Rebels”. In a very real sense, they are allied with Assad in that they do not fight Assad’s forces but instead cooperate & coordinate with the government forces. The “rebels” are Islamists allied with the Islamist Erdogan Turks and these “rebels” fight both Assad AND the Kurds.

Jihadi just means some guy who is fighting because he thinks Allah wants him to, that doesn’t have to mean ISIS. We have had a lot of trouble finding people to partner with in Syria that don’t eventually realign them selves with some unsavory group or other. Lots of the weapons Clinton was handing out ended up with Al Qaeda or ISIS or somebody. One of the big reasons we shouldn’t be in Syria is the lack of allies that like us today and will still like us next year.

No, “rebels” are not “ISIS jihadists”, they are “Al Qaeda jihadists”. And the forces that inadvertently called in an American air strike on their own position were not “rebels” but were SDF which are mainly Kurds.
The rules of engagement required all US strikes to be contolled by a US fac. Did they change that?
