"But it's just not anti-social psychotics...."

Oh, so I'm not alone. Thank you.

You know - I fly a lot, always wear business casual, and am polite as the day is long. And will go to great lengths to avoid trouble.

Great lengths, not any length.
But if YOU don't mind being abused by jack-booted thugs, perhaps you are the psychotic.

The vast majority of lawyers will take any case in their field that A, looks promising, or B, belongs to a deep-pocketed person who can afford the fees even if the case fails.

However, there is an elite group of high powered lawyers whose reputations allow them to pick and choose. They pick winnable cases, in order to maintain their formidable/lucrative reputations.

So in your mind their is no difference between a general news conference and personally handing out checks to actual witnesses of the event.

The definitions tainting a jury pool and tampering with a witness are different, so the manner in which they are carried out is different.

If this case ever went to trial they'd have to import a bunch of Amish people with no TVs and no newspapers to serve on the jury.

That would be the lamest argument I’ve ever seen in a courtroom. if I’m on that jury I would find for the plaintiff and award $1 in damages.

Totally agree. The lawyer on retainer is already pounding that "PC" avenue.

Bottom line : Whatever "excessive" force that was employed was totally induced by the violent neurotic or insane passenger with known anger management issues.
It may even be a cultural aberration (google air travel in China.) This kind of event is quite common in Asia.

This nutjob should NOT have been traveling alone.

The overriding objective in air travel management is the safety of the passengers, most of whom are normal, sane, and sober.

How many people do you know who would sneak back aboard a loaded airliner after being removed for any reason whatsoever?

If I were on that jury, it would a slam dunk. In favor of American Airlines.

this videographer is a slave

I suppose it's a matter of perspective.
My vote is that you might be among slaves to "P.C." With a side of mental irregularity.

In this case it would be United Airlines, but I get your point. LOL.

In this particular case I think it’s a safe assumption that there was a competition among several lawyers of a similar type. I think they are miserable people, but they’ll get some money and free publicity out of this.

It’s funny because people here generally defend cops’ shooting of people for “not obeying orders,” yet here it finally becomes acceptable to not immediately bow to their demands.

Context.

Three people hauled Dao off. Did he overpower all three, in order to “sneak,” back on?

would you please get the facts...it was the COPS that had to take that guy off, he resisted, thus the ugly scene...

and the crew didn't get a "Free ride" like going on vacation...they were a crew heading to another assignment, and it was not negotiable...

Most people, including most lawyers, will be miserable in the hereafter. However, I have firsthand experience that the average lawyer is not miserable in the here and now.

And on another thread, that reportedly HAS happened on an airline (where a higher paying passenger got to fly in a seat that had already been sold and occupied).

That, dear fool, is the subject for another thread...

And universally negative support aimed at the airline guaranteed.*

Apples and oranges.

*Unless, for example, National Security or extreme humanitarian circumstances are at play.
"Don't you know who I am!?" need not apply.

...

I don’t doubt you believe that, but I don’t even know your definition of happiness.

I worked in a large firm of Bostonian lawyers. To a man and to all but one woman they seemed and acted happy routinely. I certainly never saw even one of them being miserable. The one unhappy woman kept failing the bar, and in between times obsessed about her complexion.

And it's getting very tiresome to keep hearing that the flight was overbooked, when in fact the airline opted to toss off paying passengers so that four employees could enjoy free travel.

Monumentally stupid statement.

You need to grow up or educate yourself.

Yes, they would be flying for free, but that's not the main issue.

Are you aware that the air travel system is a mind-boggling game of pick-up sticks?

If the crew which replaced the "bounced" passengers to get to their destination did not arrive, it would affect, potentially, not just one future flight, but a snowball effect affecting dozens of other flights and thousands of other people.

Ignorance is not just bliss, it is dangerous.

This mythical crew sure materialized mysteriously. Just imagine, had the agents at the gate known about them, they could have denied Dao a boarding pass. He’d have never made it to his seat. But perhaps that’s too orderly and painless for United. Better to put the man in his seat before suddenly announcing a mythical flight crew that suddenly materialized out of the blue without warning or advance knowledge.

They sent in the goon squad to deplane a paying and seated customer. No way will I fly United again.

That paying customer was deplaned once, and snuck back aboard.
Your not flying United again is comforting.
That's my airline of choice.

I don’t think this was some fun free travel perk. They were going to work.

Phrased that way, that seems almost trivial.

The relevant fact is that hundreds of other passengers were relying on their ability to get to work.
