Trump Says He Offered China Better Trade Terms in Exchange for Help on North Korea
Wall Street Journal ^

Posted on 04/12/2017 4:33:50 PM PDT by springwater13

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he has offered Chinese President Xi Jinping a more favorable trade deal for Beijing in exchange for his help on confronting the threat of North Korea.

Mr. Trump, in a wide-ranging interview with The Wall Street Journal, said he would accept, for instance, a trade deal with China that does less to address trade deficits.

“I told him, I said, ‘You know we’re not going to let that [current trade deficit] go ahead,’ ” Mr. Trump said of his meeting last week with Mr. Xi. He added he told Mr. Xi: “ ‘But you want to make a great deal? Solve the problem in North Korea.’ That’s worth having deficits. And that’s worth having not as good a trade deal as I would normally be able to make.”

Mr. Trump also said his administration won’t label China a currency manipulator in a report due this week, despite promises he made on the campaign trail. Mr. Trump said China has stopped manipulating its currency and that it was more important to focus on cooperation with China on North Korea.

“Clean coal technology”

I think we should stop calling it “clean” coal. Coal is coal. The libtards aren’t any more pacified if coal is “clean”. So, I say to them: CHOKE ON DIRTY COAL YOU STUPID LIBTARDS!

Won’t happen.

Agreed. We're not going to get help from China to put their little terror back in the box without paying them to do it. They're still getting a lot of use out of that nut case and won't give him up for free. But the President's mistake here was conflating the two "deals." One could have been put off for awhile. If we don't get the North Korean problem solved right away, well it's going to be getting bigger faster and it's going to be affecting China (and S.Korea and Japan) long before it becomes our problem. Right now it is only our problem because we have promised to protect South Korea and Japan - if we have to make this one big deal, lets bring them both into it too and let them help pick up the tab.

I trust President Trump to handle North Korea and China ,more than any of the other d-bags that could’ve ended up being our president.

I think you summed that up as well as anyone. Agreed.

I’m tired of our boys being buried on foreign soil, and the Korean Peninsula is one of them. Let the Asian’s deal with their part of the world, especially when they’ve caused their own problems.

We’re actually better off, since trade deficits, as currently calculated, include the value of foreign investment in our country, according to Mark Levin.

So Chinese subsidiaries operating in our country and hiring Americans count toward the trade deficit. Perhaps it’s time for a better way to compute that.

One drawback of attacking NK is the fear China would come to their aid.

Maybe this means China will let us wipe Fatboy out.

Yeah that trade deficit, the campaign promise, forget about it...... Oh and the other one what was it.....oh yeah labeling the ChiComs a currency manipulator, forget about it.

But I am glad he is getting in position to bomb the f(*k out of NK and work with the commies to do a regime change (campaign promise not to do this, forget about it) in NK.

After this hopefully he can concentrate on stopping these damn illegals coming across our Southern border. We had 37 (we rounded up) bail out right in from of my main entrance to my property when their "school bus" was overtaken by CSO (what a chase, right?). Spent most of the afternoon and early morning hours chasing the little greasers and zipper heads. It was funny how the Deputy described them bailing out the windows and doors. He said it was like a yellow worm that sprouted a hundred legs.

Clean coal technology and purchase of US coal

What? NK is sitting on vast resources of coal and China is licking its chops to get its hands on it.

Why would it buy US coal when it can take NK coal after the attack?

Likewise, when you run on “no foreign wars,” yet the likelihood that this NORK nut wants a war means you might have to violate that, then you have to decide which is more important, a relatively better/worse trade deal or another foreign involvement

You call bombing a country and overthrowing regime (which was also a campaign promise NOT to do) NOT being in a foreign war?

IF you do then you and I have totally different meanings of what war or a fight is. If you throw a punch at me, we are fighting. If the US bombs a foreign country that is foreign involvement. Another campaign promise BROKEN....period.

You can sugar coat a turd but it is still a turd.

I am not saying it did not need to be done but damn, do not try to walk it back like some liberal. I am not saying that that little crazy loon in NK needs to be eliminated from this Earth, but President Trump needs to be honest with the folks that put him there. He needs to say, "Hey, gotta do it again and break my promise. I know I promised you this and that but I will make it up to you. This NK loon gotta go".

This flat out sucks. We are being held hostage in the Chinese trade war because of North Korea! Outrageous Donald.

Hmm. I don’t see us at war with Syria now. As for NORK, you might very well get that statement.

This is the exact opposite of what Trump’s long time supporters wanted. We would rather he get tough on trade and make concessions on North Korea.
