Rock and politics… what hath Charlie Daniels wrought?

While most of the tunes on this list are openly and unashamedly jingoistic, a few have managed over time and circumstances to easily fall into the small government and/or flat-out nationalistic leanings of many Rock fans.

In no particular order;

So why don’t we dump ‘em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

I have long thought that "Respect Yourself" by the Staples Singers was basically a conservative song. Mavis Staples might disagree.

Liberal, libertarian, conservative, all the above are getting the $hit end of the stick from the maybe 10,000 in the country that control the lives of 300 million but conservatives are still going to war and going to work. The bi^ch is paying your way in sweat and too often blood for the privilege.

Everyone is pi$$ed off but the 10,000 convinces the masses that it's the libs. vs. libertarian vs conservatives and and vice versa and the shell game continues.

Believe it or not, The Animals - in their “House of the Rising Sun” heyday - recorded “Bury My Body,” a jazzed-up version of an old Gospel song. And they didn’t do it in a spirit of mockery.

I never understood why libertarians insisted on identifying as "conservative." Pro abortion. Open borders. Vending machine narcotics.

They're as far from conservative as can be and are an insult to FR.

"They're as far from conservative as can be and are an insult to FR."

They are conservative in the sense of being for small government. Conservativism isn't limited to Evangelical Protestantism.

“If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.”-— Ronald Reagan

It’s risky to assume any song lyrics mean so-and-so is “conservative,” or even “liberal.”

In 2012 I co-authored a rock and roll history with Mark Stein, lead singer/keyboardist of Vanilla Fudge. His connections allowed me to interview a bunch of rockers, such as Billy Joel, Alice Cooper, Robby Krieger, David Paich, Dave Mason, and others.

I’d say my conversations with them, some of which got pretty intimate, lead me to know for sure that Vinny Martel and Mark Stein of Fudge are definite conservatives and both were Trump voters. Alice Cooper (Vince) is a Bible believing Republican here in AZ. Rudy Sarzo of Quiet Riot was a guest on a panel we had in LA about how rock helped combat communism. I’d say he’s moderate-to-conservative.

I think Metal guys tend to be more conservative, but then the Grunge bands tend to be very liberal.

I think The Who’s “won’t get fooled again” places well on any conservatives music list.
