Republican holds on in closely-watched Kansas special House election!!!!!
Fox News ^ | 04/12/2017 | Samuel Chamberlain

Kansas state Treasurer Ron Estes held off a stronger-than-expected challenge from Democratic civil rights attorney James Thompson Tuesday night as the GOP won the first special congressional election since President Trump's inauguration.

The election was held to fill the House seat vacated by CIA Director Mike Pompeo, a former three-term representative of Kansas' 4th district.

With 94 percent of the precincts reporting, Estes had won 52 percent of the vote to 46 percent for Thompson. The Republican's margin was just under 6,500 votes. By contrast, Pompeo's narrowest victory, in 2014, was by just under 70,000 votes.

The race had been closely watched nationally for signs of a backlash against Republicans or waning support from Trump voters in a reliably Republican district. Trump won 60 percent of the votes cast in the 17-county congressional district this past November.

The president himself entered the fray Monday with a recorded get-out-the-vote call on Estes' behalf.

Estes supported Trump last year and backs the president's policies. He supports the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, backs funding for a wall on the border with Mexico, opposes funding for Planned Parenthood, and does not believe an independent investigation into Russian hacking of the election is needed.

Winning by 6,500 when the last guy never won by less than 70k isn’t a great thing to hoot about.

Correct. MSNBC's ratings are way up from before the election, by a third to a half. The left is VERY energized. Nobody should pretend they're in shrinking violet mode. Trump needs to realize that a strong left means he needs a strong right to fight them. He needs to govern as a strict conservative. There is NO "winning the left over" when they're in this rabid dog mode. That'd be like negotiating with somebody high on bath salts and meth.

Great observations! However, the MSM will try to keep the morale of the DNC up, by saying the Republican only won by say 8 or 10% and in the last election he won by 30 points.
Well the power of incumbency, a presidential election etc may explain the difference.

apparently people didn’t like him vetoing the Medicaid expansion. That ties in to my point that Trump will have to replace and ensure that people that can’t get coverage are insured.

Sounds like "selective quotations" from the MSM. Whoever is protesting that they didn't get MORE free stuff added on, not even a case where they had it and it was taken away, is a rabid leftist and they deserve to be ignored. They are the enemy of our country and the pathway to us becoming the U.S. of Greece.

How exactly do you win as a capitalist by creating a socialist state to "appease" your mortal enemies?

Those “people in the middle” might just be convinced they don’t need a socialist state if Trump actually cuts off the welfare and they learn to take pride in having a job and paying their own way. Of course all of the government-cutting and tax-cutting he can do to energize the private sector helps.

When I was young...so many years ago....I was an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan. It was 1951, I was eleven years old. The Brooklyn Dodgers & the New York Giants were playing in the National League playoffs. Bobby Thompson, the New York Giant player was at bat in the ninth inning and “Bam” he connected and hit the home run heard round the world...right down the left field foul line. It just barely made the fly into the left field grandstand, a mere 150 feet distance....but, it was a legal home run!!! The New York Giants won the NL Playoffs!

I cried and complained to my Dad, saying it was not fair that such a weak fly ball was, in fact, a home run. My dad replied, “Son, a 150 foot or, 450 foot home run is still a home run!!! He was right!!! all the complaining was pure hogwash. The “Hill” blog site continues the Obama Jive , of being wrong...all the time!!! Congratulations, “Trump” Congressman Estes!!!

If Democrats really, like REALLY wanna win in Kansas (basically equivalent of Republicans winning in DC): they need more of these types of voters. Or these, they kinda look similar

>>>52-46 isn’t razor thin<<<

The Libertarian Candidate took 2% away from the Republican.

It should have been 54-46, not that I’m complaining. LOL

52 to 46 percent. I grew up in Kansas. This is unheard of. The illegal alien vote in Kansas is strong nowadays.

Glad Estes won, but WHY was this such a close election in a deep red state like Kansas?? And why is Gov. Brownback (supposedly) so unpopular?>>> not sure about brownback but it is an off cycle special election.

“The Libertarian Candidate took 2% away from the Republican.”

Yeahbut...how much did the L peel off of the D vote? That dynamic isn’t a one-sided proposition, after all.

“Correct. MSNBC’s ratings are way up from before the election”

You are right they are BUT so are those of FNC. Plus the expected surge of the ratings before the election realized by all the Cable stations FNC has retained the huge increase to a far greater extent than has any of the others.

They are pouring millions upon millions into a stealth dem Ossof. Commercials don’t say he’s a dem or what he stands for (except “I’ll fight for you in DC).

I think they’ll steal this on with big money, lies, and voter apathy.

I hope I’m proven wrong.

Actually the final tally gives Estes an eight percentage point victory. When you consider the Democrats surged the early vote and then were counting on illegal votes to provide the margin of victory, they failed miserably.

Estes won ever county except one and he almost just about won that, also. The Democrats, once again pulled the “Hillary Gig”...but it went down the toilet across the entire congressional district!!! The Trumpsters live on!!!

In a special election situation, the out of power party has more energy, so the margin is narrower. Look at turnout numbers to see if there is something to worry about.
