If there is no moral qualms about chemical weapons, why did even Hitler shun their use in WWII?
Because they are bad and nasty. So?
Bad and nasty things happen every single day all over the globe. Is there any of them that you don’t want to stick your nose into?
Because Hitler suffered injuries (temporary blindness) from a gas attack in WWI. Note that he had no compunctions about using them on Jews, and others he considered undesirables, in the death camps. He simply didn't want the fighting forces of his superior race (said with dripping sarcasm) being attacked with them.

Because there was a credible countering force of chemical weapons in the hands of the enemy.
Sarin gas: just a tiny drop kills an adult. How did anyone treating the _victims_ survive w/o any protective gear?
Yikes! Hitler was offered nukes by Nobel Prize physicist Bohr, in 1940, and refused to pursue the project. Hitler said, “The war will be over by 1942 and it will not be necessary.”
There were moral and, more importantly, practical reservations about using chemical weapons during the Great War. As a veteran of that war, Hitler was well aware of the practical issues, even if he had no moral compunction about them.

I think he was warned to not do it by Roosevelt, Truman,
Churchill if he didn’t want Hell to descend on his head
(which it finally did anyway).
Truman had personally experienced being attacked with
chemical weapons in combat during WWI - also Churchill I
think. (Germany had used them in WWI.)
Well technically he did gas the jews...
Because he feared retaliation. Hitler was also a gas casualty in WWI so maybe that influenced him. I don’t think it was because Hitler was less Eeeeevil than Assad. What a ridiculous introduction of Hitler into a debate. Truly a classic.
We have a new neocon meme: Assad worse than Hitler.
“If there is no moral qualms about chemical weapons, why did even Hitler shun their use in WWII?”
Zyklon B, sport.
The Germans didn’t use chemical weapons because they didn’t want chemical weapons used against them. The Wehrmacht was still using horses for transport and chemical weapons would have disrupted their logistics.
