President Trump said Thursday night that the United States had carried out a missile strike in Syria on Thursday night in response to the Syrian governments chemical weapons attack this week that killed more than 80 civilians.
A senior military official said that 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles had hit Al Shayrat airfield in Syria. The missiles were aimed at Syrian fighter jets and other infrastructure but did not target anything that may have had chemical weapons.
He said that no Russian planes were at the airfield and that the cruise missiles did not target any Russian facilities.

I thought my questions were pretty concrete.
Ok, that’s funny.
1) War is hell, but we draw the line at chemical weapons.
2) Who said anything about nation building? Leaning on Russia to make Assad step down doesn’t obligate us to nation build. Where did this come from?
3) Russia might fight if provoked, but the US striking Assad for using chemical weapons is not a major povocation. Russia knows Assad stepped over the line. They aren’t stupid.

Could I nominate you as vice presidential candidate when we push Mike Pence as top contender in 2020 (if we make it to 2020)?
Yeah, there's no chance that this will drag out or have the losses and consequences like those three did, they had China, Al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS supporting them, Assad has only Russia and Iran, he won't last.
And this time the Democrats are on the Republicans side in this, right?
North Korea should be very careful!!! I bet there will be no more Chinese ships building islands. World be warned.
Did Asad drop chemical munitions, or did they blow up a weapons depot that had chemical weapons?
For extra points, did Asad know there were chemical weapons on the ground?
For extra extra points, IF Asad knew there were chemical weapons intended to be used against his side was it inappropriate for him to take them out before they could be used?
Here, I’ll explain it to you just for the heck of it.
Your tactics included a what if, an analogy and the most common form which is shifting focus to something more general or expansive.
Your goal was to distract from the very concise and powerful point that this airstrike was to hold Assad accountable for using chemical weapons against his own citizens.
But deceptive tactics don’t change the reality of what’s already taken place.
Navy Patriot ~ Kinda like the Vietnam limited strike,...
Me? I would have gone with just like Pearl Harbor was a limited strike on a purely military facility.
Only with tens or hundreds of thousands of military age American "refugees" infiltrated into the Japanese homeland...
“In what way is he not like Hitler?”
Sorry, but Hitler wasn’t fighting a civil war instigated and funded by foreign interest.
Doesn’t matter what war Hitler was fighting, if it were a civil war would that make the gassing of millions of men, women, and children any more acceptable?
“Doesnt matter what war Hitler was fighting, if it were a civil war would that make the gassing of millions of men, women, and children any more acceptable?”
My answer was to your original question. To my knowledge, Hitler never authorized the use of chemical weapons in battle. On another note, we do know that Islamists have no qualms against using civilians as sacrificial shields, or placing dangerous chemical weapons in the midst of said innocent civilians. I have my doubts that Assad was behind this latest outrage.
This seems to have been written before the attacks but other than an apparently wrong guess about what Trump would do, I think the reasoning is better than that of anyone else out there, excepting maybe Trump. Trump knows.
Possible. But Assad has chemical weapons stockpiled and has used them so that's possible too. Tell you what, I"d hate to be President in the current world situation, sucks all the way around.
Yeah, somebody on Twitter reminded me that he could have gone after all six bases.
Hillary wants to destroy the Syrian air force. Nutcase.
..... Their love of any war that this nation is involved with only happens when it can be used as propaganda to make this nation look bad .... And in doing so .... I therefore revert back to my original point.
I think the message to Assad is: Hey, we're going to go after ISIS with or without your help. If you want to help, then great... but if you pull this chemical crap on innocents we're going to punch you in the nose hard.
The rest of the message is: Trump is not Obama.
and I amend mine to say that they love wars if there is no national interest at stake and if the president is a Democrat. Since only one is true you are correct. Still it’s going to be amazing watching the backflips vis-à-vis Trump as Putin’s pawn.
