U.S. Launches Missiles at Syrian Base After Chemical Weapons Attack
NBC NEWS ^

The United States launched dozens of cruise missiles Thursday night at a Syrian airfield in response to what it believes was the Syrian government's use of banned chemical weapons blamed for having killed at least 100 people on Tuesday, U.S. military officials told NBC News.

The U.S. military fired at least 50 Tomahawk missiles intended for a single target — Ash Sha'irat in Homs province in western Syria, the officials said.

THAT is the intended audience. Plus XI is visiting... Now has a real sense of who we are with this new leader calling the shots.

Shouldn’t we be hearing VERY shortly from the White House? Seems a lot of us have a lot of questions. A tweet is quicker than a missile.

We already did.

If it’s an active Syrian AF field it had (past tense) dozens of planes. Probably everyone one of them got a Tomahawk warhead. Assad’s air force has just been seriously depleted. Probably also demolished much of the base infrastructure and support facilities. We did not launch 50 Tomahawks just to tear up runways.

Most on here are acting like we just sent the 101st Airborne in and put boots on the ground. We shot 50 cruise missiles, that’s it. It was a response to the use of WMDs. I don’t see it as the US picking sides in a civil war.

When Trump next speaks with Putin, I bet he tells Putin to control his boy Assad.

Tillerson leaves for Moscow tomorrow ... for a trip previously planned. It should be interesting.

Reading a lot of comments like yours here.

People don’t like being lied to by those they supported. Imagine that.

Starting a hot war in the ME isn’t a good thing either.

Ignoring prophecy for now and awaiting the Russian response.

Very bad decision and the opposite of what he said during the debates.

JR needs to clean out many posters, that do nothing but attack the POTUS. It is time to weed them out...

WHERE IS HUSSEIN OBAMA HIDING OUT RIGHT NOW??? WILL HE BE RUSHING BACK TO TOWN? OR WILL HE RUN FARTHER AWAY?

The satisfaction of many on this thread to maintain the ineffective status quo of the Obama administration is disgusting to me. You’re quite right. This was a measured response.

FWIW to those who can think clearly at this moment, Col Allen West has an article that is clearly supportive of the reasons, rationale and tactics of this action. Here’s a link, I’m somehow unable to copy the text to post it as a separate thread:

Syria has to be settled - and it will be, one way or another. Many of the potential outcomes would be disastrous for us long term. Trump must prevent another threat against the US from taking root there - can’t just ignore it.

I think that this action is really geared toward the end-state settlement that we want - not leaving the country to Iran or Saudi Arabia (Oops, I mean ISIS or their like).

I think that end state is to establish a more diverse, more democratic constitution, and to reform/re-brand the ruling Ba’ath Party, like Communist Parties re-branded after the Soviet Union fell. The Nazi-inspired racism (”Arab Nationalism”) of the Ba’ath has no place in the modern world. They need to be able to walk away from their past crimes without fighting to the death, to agree to give up power. Assad will have to go (Maybe a palatial dacha on Black Sea coast near Sochi).

Nuts will have to squeezed hard to get there.

Maybe Egypt and Jordan can go in to Syria to provide stabilization and reconstruction personnel, with the Saudis and Qataris paying the tab (to make up for the mess they made).

We just sent exactly that to the neighborhood and very recently - from the 82nd Airborne Division.

They aren’t there to plant flowers.

Engaging the Assad govt by bongo was a bad idea when he tired it and it is a bad idea now by trump.

He had better have his ducks in a row with the Russians.

Thanks. That brings me relief. I’d missed it. Our CiC is in charge. Why can’t he deal as firmly with a fruitcake judge in Hawaii?

CNN said that US Intel confirmed it was Assad with the chemical attack on his own people

What are two organizations that we should trust implicitly because they would never, ever lie to us, Alex?

That’s irony for ya. At home we are handcuffed by activist judges abusing their powers. But abroad we can take action for gassed foreign civilians.
