Global warming killed off the Mayans by locking leaders in violent power struggle

The reason for the collapse of Mayan civilisation has been hotly debated, but now scientists claim they have an answer - climate change.

Researchers believe that hot weather made the Mayans more aggressive and therefore likely to fight one another.

As crops failed due to the rising temperatures leaders waged war for power which lit the fuse of their eventual demise around 900 AD, the study says.

With crops levels low Mayan leaders could no longer rely on brash festivals or building projects to keep their sujects happy.

So they resorted to power struggles and war instead which finished the mysterious civilisation off.

Researchers catalogued inscriptions related to violence on stone monuments and compared them to temperature and rainfall records for the lowlands of the Yucatán Peninsula, which includes mordern-day Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.

So, the Mayans had too many farting cows or were driving too many gas-burner SUVs?

And the coming of the Little Ice Age caused crop failures that supposedly was a significant cause of the 100 Years War. Crop failures and famine cause war, no matter why they occur.

French Revolution arose from an extended period of cold weather that caused poor wheat harvests. Price of bread skyrocketed, a staple of the French commoner's diet.

Irish potato famine occurred in similar fashion. Doesn't anyone study history anymore? smdh

Ruh roh...how could these poor Mayans and other proto-indians have POSSIBLY caused the earth to warm? No lights. No phones. No motor cars. Not a single luxury. Like Robinson Crusoe as primitive as can be.

How could their activity possibly have caused the earth to warm?

The SUV was invented in 900AD? That means there’s a new archaeological holy grail to be found.

I assumed the story was being presented as evidence AGAINST the idiotic warming claims of today.

If the Mayans wilted under the heat a thousand years ago, it surely couldn’t have been my three all-wheel drive vehicles that caused the problem.

Recently I read a history of the Indian tribes in my home area, scholarly but very readable, and the author pointed to the same kind of terrific heat wave about five hundred years ago...said tribes migrated north from present-day Mexico all the way to and beyond the Canadian border, in search of food and water.

The heatwave and drought lasted many years...again, it sure as hell wasn’t coal or oil that brought that one about...

No factories or cars, what caused that “global warming?” Likewise, what happened to the last ice age since there was no man made carbons being poured into the atmosphere?

I am sure it was all the old clunkers they were driving around those days, and I bet their airconditioners were all running R13 freon.

So global warming was occurring before there was any industrial output which means that it is a NATURALLY OCCURRING PHENOMENON !

So their civilization was destroyed 1117 years ago because they were all driving cars, SUVs, and flying in airplanes?
