More people are leaving the New York region than any other major metropolitan area in the country.
More than 1 million people moved out of the New York area to another part of the country since 2010, a rate of 4.4 percent the highest negative net migration rate among the nations large population centers, US Census records show.
The number of people leaving the region which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island in one year swelled from 187,034 in 2015 to 223,423 in 2016, while the number of international immigrants settling in the tri-state area dwindled from 181,551 to 160,324 over the same period, records show.

I was just going to say that I love seeing these Liberal Hellholes lose population...but all it does is spread the CANCER to other parts of America.
Grrrr!
And we keep importing more dependents. It's crazy!
Wonder if the Trumps will end up moving to Florida.
I was there in 1950 and will never go back to that hell hole.
White Americans are a minority in NYC, but I was wondering if those leaving aren’t the immigrants sent to infiltrate the red states.
Yeah, and they will to red states and vote for the same Democrats they voted to screw up NY.
Live tbere? Hell I don’t even want to go there!
They remind me of muzzies who leave their hellholes that they have created for themselves by their nefarious religion.
Virginia,Maryland and DC have the very same problem...too many residents receive a government check.
Just like the Californication of Or, and WA.
Grew up thru HS Enlisted after HS in the late 70s and long gone. Family still there. Sister is liberal socialist and actually thinks NYers are superior to the hicks and rubes living West of the Hudson River. We have not spoken to each other except briefly at several funerals since 1998 or so
If I lived there, I’d GTFO too.
I think that was the one and only time Hillary! posted on FR.
I remember her telling us her sad story of how she unwillingly and unwittingly got into politics because she was forced to follow her husband around to various states for HIS career!
Bwaa-Haaa-Haaa...I crack myself UP! *SMIRK*
But then I got married and had children. Had to leave. Still like to go back. Couldn't live there anymore.
Why my fellow NYers are leaving
Andrew Cuomo:
“Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” he said. “Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if thats who they are and theyre the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because thats not who New Yorkers are.”
LOL. No problem, FRiend. Guess it's an entirely different perspective if one is born and raised in a big city.
But I will agree with posters that things went downhill in the late 60s. We had a renaissance with Giuliani, but that didn't last long. FWIW, I'm no longer there but have relatives in the outskirts.
More proof that coastal states are just fly over zones.
I'm one of those guys that are still here because of my job. Once I leave this job I leave Long Island. No love lost.
When I was growing up, Long Island was beautiful. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Now it's a disgrace. An Island filled with Haves and Have-Nots who want nothing to do with each other. The Have-Nots live better than the working class and consider them fools. The working class are the Schmucks of Society. They work, work, and work and pay taxes, taxes, and taxes and never get anywhere.
The corrupt Public Unions (Cops and Teachers) horde the wealth and the Counties claim poverty and deficits. When these overpaid Public Union employees retire, they leave the Island and spend their Long Island citizen-funded Pensions and Welfare benefits elsewhere.
Long Island has few high paying private-sector jobs, heavy drug use, plenty of crime, and lots of hate.
Like I said, a Sh*thole.
Probably because of the mayors they elect ... but it could be worse .... Chicago!
