Marvel VP of Sales blames women and diversity for sales slump

Marvel Comics aren’t doing well. Sales have declined, even as Marvel has pushed out every major event and crossover it can over the past two years. In a recent interview during the Marvel Retailer Summit, Marvel VP of Sales David Gabriel decided to ignore all the problems and criticism in order to place the blame on diversity.

What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against.

Woen do not want to read about female men. Women want male characters to be masculine and alphas.

Yeah the comics need to leave the SJW-Homo universe they currently are residing in.

Blatantly. I mean, show the Dallas shower scene Bobby Ewing is alive/ it was all a dream sequence and be done with it all.

If I need a comic fix, I get some of my back issues out. They’re better than anything on the market these days.

That's been my attitude for over a decade now. Plus as time passes one can read a story again and see new facets that were missed at a younger age.

I stopped reading X-Men not long after the wedding of Scott and Jean. So as far as I'm concerned they lived happily ever after.

As a female fan of both Marvel and DC during the 60’s, I always preferred Marvel because the Superheroes were so much more “Heroic” and unabashedly VIRILE.

There are even modern pop-culture clues to that preference (of course, comic books are aimed at a younger demographic - insert PC/indoctrination rant here)...

Marvel should follow Sears, Target, Bed/Bath/Beyond and ELIMINATE ALL VESTIGES OF CONSERVATISM, including getting rid of male/female couples (unless a greater number of ‘other’ couples are also included), supporting men in ladies rooms, and getting rid of Ivanka’s stuff.

Despite the obvious implications of their sales slump, I strongly encourage Marvel Comics to pursue “diversity” by producing products their customers clearly do not want, even if it takes Marvel into bankruptcy.

Marvel makes their money off of movies now. The comics are a side line. They want to have a "diverse" cast in the movies but can't be sure how far they can push it. But they can experiment in the comics if not on the big screen. So they will continue to try to make their existing and established heroes into gays, minorities, and fascists in the hopes that one (just one!) sticks so they can port him/her/it over to the movies as the "new" Iron Man or Thor or whatever.

Also people have soured on their political crap!!! Ex ..captain America..when I saw the movie I fell in love with the character because he stood for all that was good, God , country, honor and just, but when the idiots from Hollywood came out bashing Trump that was it! I will never see another Marvel movie ever again! The fers ruined it for us!

When you start from the idea that the character must be < fill in the blank > then try to fit in a story line to showcase that whatever you are going to end up with lame stories about uninteresting characters.

Shoehorning your cause of the week into the story doesn't work either.

It makes people toss your stuff down and vow never to pick up another thing with that story line.

Two of their tv shows have gay characters. Just inserted for no purpose related to the story. I read that Green Lantern is also suppose to be gay. Others will say but that is in another alternate dimension. Not needed but inserted because someone at Marvel or the studios wants to push their agenda.

Maybe. Probably true. However, I know a lot of Asians who are into buying comics. My wife's brother is a big-time buyer. He's Chinese-American. Arranged with comic stores to reserve comics for him as they come in, and he has many thousands of comic books. He tells me of all the new characters in Marvel comics, and he is also disappointed at the diversity crap, preferring the regular white characters. It's a crazy hobby. He was telling me last night that he recently bought two comics for $10, and he thought he overspent maybe a year ago. Those two are now going for over $600 each. And I thought I was doing well investing in stocks.
