She's marched for miles carrying gear that weighs as much as she does, killed animals for food during survival training and practised jumping out of planes to get behind enemy lines.
But Jannike, a pony-tailed 19-year-old from northern Norway, will only concede that she's "pretty tough".
She is part of the Hunter Troop, the world's first all-female special forces training programme.
"I wanted to do something bigger, the toughest the army could offer me," Jannike says. "I wanted to [see] how far I could push myself."
After six months, despite some "really low moments", she is determined to get through the course.
Next up on the training schedule is close-combat fighting and offensive driving.

My BS detector needs a new battery after reading the first sentence:
She's marched for miles carrying gear that weighs as much as she does.
‘Nuff said. That says it all. You seriously do not want to get on Lagerta’s shiite list.
Now the axe! Now the sword! Splintered shields!
Now THAT’S hair big enough to make Dolly Parton happy.
The article says the need for women special forces arose in Afghanistan where interactions with Muslim female civilians were more productive using female soldiers.
Those skills will come in handy right there in Norway before too long.
could i pass this test? uhhh...No.
Could you pass the unit?
Requirements to complete the course:
15km (9 miles) speed march in full gear (22kg backpack, weapon, boots) through forests within two hours and 15 minutes
Six pull-ups
50 sit-ups in two minutes
40 push-ups
3km run - maximum time 13 minutes
400m swim, first 25m underwater - maximum time 11 minutes
Yeah. I know. I have to bend my head back to look up. Hers are a tad masculine.
She struck me as hot in the first seasons of The Vikings. One picture does not do her justice.
“He recognises that there are some valid concerns: most pertinently, the ability of a female soldier to quickly carry a wounded male counterpart to safety...”They are not going to win hand-to-hand combat, but most of the time we use guns and a lot of the time they shoot better than the guys.”
Requirements include:
Six pull-ups
50 sit-ups in two minutes
40 push-ups
3km run [< 2 miles] - maximum time 13 minutes
Yeah. Elite female fighting force. Just make sure they never need to carry anyone to safety and never need to do hand-to-hand combat.
And this:
“None of the women who have passed through the Jegertroppen so far have been deployed on a special operation, but the commanders say that the important thing is that they are trained and ready should the need arise.”
“Conscription was extended to Norwegian women last year and they made up about 25% of the 8,000 youngsters recruited, meaning the share should increase over time.”
They’re screwed.
What did Napoleon say? “I don’t have an army, I have a travelling brothel.”
Exactly. An old friend of mine who passed away recently was an artillery sergeant in Vietnam. He also went on a number of Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols ‘’lrps’’) and was just an all around killer. He told me in no uncertain terms women should never be in combat roles. He said they simply don’t have the strength or the stamina to endure combat.
My daughter was in the Marines. She married a guy in Marine infantry. She thinks the idea that men & women can be equal in combat is beyond stupid. She also points out that passing one test is nice, but that folks who do it for real need to pass the test with ease, and continue to do so for years.
In combat, no one wants to be standing next to someone who can meet minimum standards...
In my younger days yes, after 25 years retired and a 5 year tbi victim No.
So many combat veterans I’ve known have told me that aside from the actual experience of combat, which is terrifying, combat itself is really about hunting other human beings. They have told me that under the right conditions humans revert to an almost animal state in which the senses become heightened, especially the sense of hearing and smell. “You could smell ‘em’’ was a refrain I’ve heard many times from combat vets. With all due respect there are certain health and sanitary issues women have that would be a liability in the field.
The biggest problem with women in the military is fraternization and the toll it takes on the health and morale of the troops. If there are going to be women in combat and special forces, all female units are preferable to mixed companies IMO.
Don’t get me wrong. She’s out of my league in reality. I’m just being a keyboard critic in fantasy.
could i pass this test? uhhh...No.
In my day I could have passed it easily except for the swimming part, which we didn’t have.
Six pull ups? I scoff.
48 pound ruck? Never got that light by half.
Something about this whole article doesn’t smell right.
Although I do want to say that my first three years in the Army were as an infantryman in a Cav unit and I carried the M60 hog for those three years .. 1975-1978. And the normal combat arms PT test in those days was much more than that.
They might as well use their women for their military, as their men are PATHETIC WIMPS not willing to defend their babes from their Islamic Rape Epidemic going on in Europe now.
Their men are an EMBARRASSMENT to REAL MEN around the world (Muslim men included, as they do defend their women, regardless of how they treat them in the home).
Concur. When I was in the Marine Corps Infantry, there were a few times that I have carried my weight on my back and is is very taxing for even a few miles. I was in my early 20s and in very good shape and carrying 1/2 my weight for 10 miles was pretty hard.
The German Army in the late 18th/early 19th century did a thorough testing of what was the proper weight a person could carry day in an day out. This research was very important because that is how armies moved in those days. Now remember, during that time everyone was used to walking for miles, and going from point "a" to point "b' with a load on your back, was not even worthy of comment. I don't remember all of the details, but I do remember that it was decided that the that the average German soldier could carry 1/3 of his weight for 20 miles for many days- the same as a mule.
Additionally, the physical fitness test listed looks like a joke for an infantry man. But it does look very hard for a woman.
Oh yeah, long hair is a no no in a serious combat unit (even logistics units). It is a safety hazard, it gets in the way, and it requires a lot of maintenance.
