"Unlawful" and "extreme" is how West Michigan Rep. Justin Amash described President Donald Trump's executive order to ban refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries.
"It's not lawful to ban immigrants on the basis of nationality," Amash said in the statement.
Trump's order blocks citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya from entering the country for at least 90 days. It also bans refugees from anywhere in the world for 120 days -- and from Syria indefinitely.
"Ultimately, the executive order appears to be more about politics than safety," Amash said. "If the concern is radicalism and terrorism, then what about Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and others?"
Unlike many Republicans who endorsed Trump when he secured the GOP nomination, Amash never formally gave the candidate his support. He said he would neither vote for Trump nor Hillary Clinton, and would remain critical of Trump's decisions in office.

Pandering to the Dearbornistanis.
I stand with Jim Robinson. The federal government has no authority to control healthcare.
Do you want a lover? No blindfolds, no whiny bitches, no cults (winky face) with Bushes. Does the book tell how many Reagans can dance on the head of a pin? PS: Like some of us I am unavailable.
I didn’t get direct source for that, I used info from someone’s post at CTH. I should have checked it out myself.
Back to research... Thanks for the head’s up.
Of course Reagan signed amnesty, but the Reagan disciples don’t like to hear that. And the 11th commandment doesn’t apply because Republicans of all stripes have been shivving Trump every chance they get. Trump actually is a far more conservative president than Reagan and I loved Reagan.
No he isn't. Keeping guaranteed issue will never allow premiums to become reasonable.
Umm it totally is lawful to ban anyone from anywhere and any country in the world. The only exception would be if they are American citizens. No one else has US constitutional rights granted to them.
Trump: If you’re listening. Send the rapefugees en masse to the cities and states obstructing democracy. It’s time liberals reaped what they have sown.
I was pleasantly surprised early on with his cabinet. He wasn’t my first choice. I voted for him though, knowing Hillary was the greater danger, and I’m happy to support him when he’s right.
But if he, Ivanka, and Jarod go hard left then to quote a certain radio host.
“I hope he fails.”

Amash; go join the Islamocrat party!
“The FC are a bunch of frauds ...”
So you support Obamacare.
Great.
There’s a huge problem when a muslim has infiltrated a group supposedly hold our views. A muslim can never be an American at heart. AINO.
Does the Freedom Caucus really have America and Americans interests at heart?
I respectfully stand independent of Jim on this issue, somewhat anyway.
I have written to him, and explained why. I have been a very happy FReeper since 2005.
If he wants me to shut up about this issue, I will, but I think this is a very important point. Trump is NOT about being a Republican.
Trump is about being American.
Millions of Americans are currently covered by Obamacare.
Removing their care, will create a domestic fight, the likes of which nobody has ever seen before.
In my opinion, we need to AMEND Obamacare. Amend it. Do not repeal it.
Keep the coverage similar to what it is now, for those covered under the program.
Sure change all the rest of the program requirements to not be nearly so restrictive.
But our healthcare system is far and away, the most expensive anywhere on earth.
Nope. We do not need to just go back to what we had before.
We need something better. In my view.
That said, FR is in my opinion the finest website anywhere.
But on this one issue, I respectfully have my own view, and I think it is similar to that held by our outstanding new President.
In fairness, as I’ve been saying, Trump did not run as a conservative on healthcare - never did. He ran as a populist. His plan involved opening up free markets but providing for those who couldn’t afford it. He said so multiple times. You can find an interview I linked to with Scott Pelley back in September of 2015. If you wanted a very conservative position on it, Trump wasn’t the candidate you wanted. Ironically, though, that’s one thing that probably helped him crack the blue wall and win. Trump can give the Freedom Caucus a good deal of what they want and move the goalposts in the right direction. As he opens up markets and brings back jobs, things will do well.
I think Trump needs to come out and explain where he is on healthcare to people because moderates and Dems who crossed over and voted for him as well as people who are on Obamacare who voted for him have a different idea than conservatives. I think Trump is right down the middle based on statements he made throughout the campaign and post election, but I think he needs to explain where he is and where he wants to go so all sides understand and don’t have unrealistic expectations.
That said, attacking the Freedom Caucus is not wise. The bill had a 17% approval rating and would have been disastrous for him if it didn’t succeed. Take time and start over taking input from all sides with a clear goal, promote it to the American people, and then pass it. It might take time, but do it right.
He needs to stop the infighting and realize that while he may be more moderate on healthcare, he has a lot of conservatives in his base who like these representatives and don’t like the bill. Campaigning against them could backfire. No, sit down and talk it out behind closed doors.
The media doesn’t need to watch this play out. The left loves it.
"We are for Trump but 100% opposed to Trumpcare."
See post 54, and yes, this guy is not Trump’s friend. The fact that he came out and sided with the Democrats on the executive order proves it.
Gimme a break.
(sigh)
Wow. Even worse than I thought. This guy would have given us Hillary!
