Environmentalists are very interested in reducing methane from cow farts, with some groups like Friends of the Earth pressuring public schools to switch their lunch menus away from beef to reduce emissions.
The Obama administration released a methane plan in 2014 that called for reducing emissions from the dairy industry 25 percent. That meant finding ways to capture or reduce emissions from cow farts and burps. Republican lawmakers, however, were quick to criticize the White House’s proposal, arguing the government could end up taxing cow farts.

LOL, I find this idea quite interesting actually. I have always thought that if by some bad luck, AGW were REAL, we could solve it through technology.
Most of the methane emitted by cows, or any ruminant, does not come from the flatus, but from eructation. They do not fart the methane, they belch it out. What comes out of the anus is primarily carbon dioxide and water vapor. The fermentation tank in the gut of every ruminant, the rumen, is where the methane is generated, and the up pressure is relieved by the gas escaping through the gullet, which has an additional groove, which allows the cow to breathe the methane out with the exhaled breath.
Methane is much lighter than the other components of atmosphere, and rises quickly once released, so there is actually very little accumulation close to the earth’s surface. Unlike water vapor, which has a similar molecular weight (and also rises quickly once volatilized), it does not go through a “heat of vaporization” which draws heat out of the surrounding atmosphere, and therefore has none of the thermodynamic effects of ice-water-water vapor phase transformation.
Bill Nye actually knows less science than would be taught in a high school general science class circa 1950. Not that the course is taught anywhere nearly as well as it was maybe fifty years ago.

Well that explains why Bill Nye doesn’t like farts. His don’t make any noise.
