Trump was misled by Paul Ryan on health care bill, says Newt Gingrich
Newt Gingrich said that President Trump was misled by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) into believing that he could pay little attention to the Obamacare replacement bill, and come in at the end and sign it. He made the comments Friday to Sean Hannity on Fox News.
I was angrier than I want to really admit publicly earlier today, Hannity admitted, Im not as angry now. Now I see an opportunity. And I sense that theyre not gonna make this mistake again, please tell me they wont do this again this way.
Well, first of all you have no idea whether or not theyll make that mistake or invent a new mistake, Gingrich offered.
What do you do know is that Donald Trump is a very smart guy, he continued. He just went through an experience that wasnt what he was told. He had been told that everything was under control, the leadership could deliver, he didnt have to pay too much attention, come in at the very end and close the deal. And it got to be a total mess.
Gingrich seemed to imply that Ryan deserved to lose the speakership over the debacle, saying, I can guarantee you that if this had been one of his hotels, one of his buildings, one of his golf courses, thered be a lot of personnel changes tonight. And I think what youre gonna see is that hes gonna rethink how hes going to approach the Congress based on this outcome. Because it was so totally, utterly unacceptable.
At the same time I think, Paul Ryan is at a real turning point, he continued. Ryans a very smart guy, nobody should take that away from him. And he knows an immense amount about policy.
But hes gotta decide, in the world of Trump, he advised, where youre doing really bold, really different things, is he willing to spend the time and the energy, listening to everybody, even when he doesnt agree with them, doesnt think they make any sense, because only by, we used to use a model of listen, learn, help and lead. And only by doing this, and youve talked about it some, only by getting everybody in the dialogue, you have a chance of ultimately getting to the majority. And I think this was an example, that starting at the top, trying to run it through the system is not going to work.
Trump allies and supporters have sought to put the blame of the repeal bills failure squarely on the shoulders of Ryan and the GOP leadership, while the administration has resisted doing so. Instead, the president blamed Democrats for resisting all efforts to repeal Obamacare, and said he would let it explode and let them come to him later.
The bill faced opposition from the Freedom Caucus of conservative Republicans Thursday, causing the vote to be postponed. But Friday when concessions were made to the right wing of the party, moderates dropped their support, dooming the bill.

"Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted," the bill states.
Mo Brooks is a member of The House Freedom Caucus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask your Congress Critter to co-sponsor the bill and sign the discharge petition for US Representative Mo Brooks's bill titled, "Obamacare Repeal Act"!!!!!!!!!!!
Repeal of Affordable Care Act Is Back on Agenda, Republicans Say>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You mean further attempts to sell American freedom down the tubes to Big Pharm and Big Insuramce will resume?
The insurane companies are loggying hard to return to pre Obama Care insurance regimes. Their profits will be enormous because they have managed to convince a large number of Amereicans that they now must live with $6000,00 deductables. Profits will skyroacket.
Thats what this is all about.
The Freedom Caucus needs to stick to its guns. Compose a health care plan for Americans, not for the companies that ruined it all in the first place by over charging and risk denial.
REPEAL! No replace. End of story.
This damn thing would be repealed fully by tomorrow IF Trump would just eliminate the executive order that 0bola created (illegally) to exempt Senate and House Congresscritters and their staff from 0boladoesn’tcare. When THEY are forced to go on 0boladoesn’tcare just like us saps, they will climb all over each other to repeal it immediately!
They got way ahead of themselves on this issue and never should’ve acted on the issue so quickly. I think Trump was focused on the optics of passing it on the day Obamacare was passed. Not smart.
And the GOP has had seven frickin’ years to prepare a kick-ass plan to present to Pres. Trump on January 22. They didn’t do it. Apparently, social events, dinners with the other elites, etc., take up soooo much of their time. It’s inexcusable. It’s embarrassing. We’ve made the Democrats look competent!
America needs a Real Repeal, NOT a Ryan “Repeal”.
