Nigel Farage and Leave backer Arron Banks just returned from a trip to California
They helped raise $1million for a 'Calexit', which would split California in two
The appear to be pitting the eastern, more rural side of California against the western 'coastal elite' liberals in Los Angeles and San Francisco
The eastern part of California would more likely vote Republican, giving the party two more senators and electoral college votes for a 2020 election
The Western side of the state would likely continue to vote Democrat
The goal is to hold a referendum during the US midterm elections in 2018
The 'Bad Boys of Brexit' who led the campaign to break Britain away from the European Union have taken on a new exit challenge: splitting California into two states.
Former UKip leader Nigel Farage and Leave backer Arron Banks have just returned from the United States, where they helped raise $1million (£800,000) for a 'Calexit' campaign, which would split California into two eastern and western regions.
There are several 'Calexit' campaigns competing for a referendum in the United States, with one aiming to remove the state from America entirely as a response to President Donald Trump being elected last year.
Farage and Banks, who led the 'Leave.EU' campaign, appear to be pitting the eastern, more rural side of California against the western 'coastal elite' liberals in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

State of Nevada???
Eastern side of coastal range of hills perhaps???
We lose nothing.
Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio and a bunch of others MORE than cover for the loss of America’s alleged “breadbasket”.
No, Sierras. Look up highway 395.
If the irrigation issue is not corrected, then the land will remain fallow.
And who in their right mind wouldn't haul ass from your state of California today if they owned a business and could?
BINGO!
That’s certainly worth mentioning.
I can think of a number of states that would go if California should.
California
Oregon
Washington
New York
Some New England states
What about our nation’s capital?
Washington D. C.
Did you notice we just won some Leftist states? That wouldn’t happen again. Michigan came with us. A few others did too.
Look, it’s true that California has problems.
What did we expect to happen when our national party abandoned it?
The Republican party is as complicit with what is happening in California, as the Democrat party is.
Farage should mind his own business.
If you wish to put it in that context, then Why HAVEN'T you changed things? After all, we're talking about the current state of California aren't we and it's constant decline for the past two decades?
It would be a mess in California. Geographically it would require a bit of work.
Now Florida could be done easily. Divide it around Orlando.
How did West Virginia secede from Virginia? The government simply did it, probably illegally.
And, compare the US election in 2016
By splitting off California there will be millions of Republicans left behind enemy lines.
I agree that there are a lot of people right here in LA who aren’t conservatives but who are scared and angry of MORE capitulating to other than Americans. Middle class Anglenos are lower middle class now.
The homeless -— it has NEVER been this bad. They are being HELPED TO BE HOMELESS. Soon it will be whole families in tents by the river or under bridges.
What I think would help is a smaller Trump, a billionaire Angelino who would be willing to sacrifice his cushy life to mayor this place and run it like a Giuliani - slashing crime, stopping illegals. Having the guts to say — schools must check eligibility, local welfare must check, hospitals must check, EMPLOYERS MUST CHECK. Go house to house and fine people $1000 per day per illegal working as nanny, housekeeper, or gardener.
Maybe LA is too large. Maybe a smaller wealthy city should do it. Burbank, Manhattan Beach, Glendale, Culver City.
It could be a socially liberal mayor who has balls.
And then if the smaller city worked, have him run for LA major and say, I will clean up LA like I cleaned up Burbank.
It could work.
Public schools, Hollywood, and a weak Republican Party as others have told you.
Montana?
LOL!
Not one legitimate reason why anyone should oppose, but rather support the seceding of California from the rest of the civilized country, which is the topic of this thread..............
DoughtyOne gave you several which you blew off without addressing. It’s sheer stupidity to cede the battleground while the fight is still on and the outcome in doubt.
“you should be ecstatic over the possibility of them seceding from the United States.......I certainly am.”
I live and work in San Jose but have a future retirement home up in the Sierra in a very “red” area. Normally I’d be fine with the idea of the western part of CA seceding and the Sierra staying with the US.
But here’s the problem. The Lib areas are not fiscally sound or economically viable. So after they blow up into default, guess who’s ready to step in with a bail out in return for some military bases - the Chinese.
As much as I’d like to ditch the coastal libs, no one should want to let the door open to a foreign military presence in what was the 50 states.
I am hopeful that Trump will remain true to his pledge to help inner cities become better places.
If he does that, he taps a new base that will support us in the future.
Get rid of the illegals. Clamp down on gangs and the lawless. Network with local Black and Hispanic leaders to get these factions on board.
Let them be the new community organizers, that organize for a better life, instead of more Democrat voters.
When Trump had those meetings with Black leaders, they were very receptive to him. If he follows through, we’ll see a big change.
That’s how you do it.
You don’t promise more to some folks, you simply promise to them that you’ll make sure our system works for them too, and then bring that about.
Hold summits where the Executive Branch reaches out to community leaders and own down to individuals in the communities.
Some of those folks do want to work for a living. Set it up so they can. Get business involved. Give folks incentives to better their own communities.
Experiment. Try different things in different communities, and move the successful options to a broader group.
We are the can-do nation.
We can do this.
Those people deserve better.
Lets show that we care more about them than the Democrats do.
That’s how you do it.
There was a proposed ballot initiative for 2016 to split it into 6 states as shown below:
