They helped raise $1million for a 'Calexit', which would split California in two
The appear to be pitting the eastern, more rural side of California against the western 'coastal elite' liberals in Los Angeles and San Francisco
The eastern part of California would more likely vote Republican, giving the party two more senators and electoral college votes for a 2020 election
The Western side of the state would likely continue to vote Democrat
The goal is to hold a referendum during the US midterm elections in 2018
The 'Bad Boys of Brexit' who led the campaign to break Britain away from the European Union have taken on a new exit challenge: splitting California into two states.
Former UKip leader Nigel Farage and Leave backer Arron Banks have just returned from the United States, where they helped raise $1million (£800,000) for a 'Calexit' campaign, which would split California into two eastern and western regions.
There are several 'Calexit' campaigns competing for a referendum in the United States, with one aiming to remove the state from America entirely as a response to President Donald Trump being elected last year.
Farage and Banks, who led the 'Leave.EU' campaign, appear to be pitting the eastern, more rural side of California against the western 'coastal elite' liberals in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

We need to bring all of California back to the good side.
Anything else is simply shuffling deck chairs.
People from other nations should stay home, if all they plan to do here is work with secessionists or people meddling with our state structures.
Not with the border left open. All that will happen is you will double the number of Dem senators. Drive the central valley. Most of these people are not going to vote GOP.
What about the North “State of Jefferson”?
Would that be 3 states?
If we ever get that Constitutional Convention, #1 Agenda should be make it easier for states to break apart/secede. This way we could isolate the Dems in their urban Hell Holes.
Democrats will never let that happen. And they have the votes to stop it.
I have to say, every time I think we have a chance, I look at who I’m standing in line with on election day and I think, oh crud. Not happening.
Yes! State of Jefferson, baby!
Hey Daily Mail: the two are already "pitted" one against another.
The Eastern side of the Sierras is really nice country, and has comparatively very few libs.
Fine with me, but two things.
Calexit is CA becoming it’s own country.
Why are foreigners involved? Some Russian is a leader on Calexit.
Anyhow, nothing is going to happen.
But what is possible would be CA allocating electoral votes.
Nigel Farage should NOT get involved in breaking up an American state.
The “Calexit” crazies want to make California a separate
country. The guy leading the charge is a Californian who lives in Russia.
Farage is talking about making it two states? These two sides are at odds with one another.
The bulk of the electoral votes would be in “West California”....the coastal areas...if it were two states.
I say keep California intact, just reconstruct them in a political sense.
As much as the left hates the electoral college, they aren’t going to allow 55+ electoral votes to just go away.
Calexit is a pipe dream.
I know exactly what you mean - same thing up here. It’s like going to Walmart on a Friday night.
Eastern Wash., Eastern Ore., Northern Calif and parts of eastern Calif. need to secede from Libdom.
Yes it is. Our county went for Trump.
That’s because you’re in Nevada.
Relax. He’s having fun and stirring up the democrats and nervous nellies.
You will never get LA and SAN Fran areas to go conservative. They are beyond saving. Freeing the rest of the state from being ruled over tyrannically by them is a great first move.
I agree.
All but a small section of interstate 395 is in CA, not NV.
