President Trump on Wednesday marked the Persian new year, Nowruz, amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
To the Iranian people and all those around the world celebrating Nowruz: On behalf of the American people, I wish you freedom, dignity, and wealth, Trump said in a statement.
The president recognized Iranian-Americans as one of the most successful immigrant groups in our countrys contemporary history who share an affection for their ancestral heritage despite their diverse religious backgrounds.

Spring is a good time for the peeps to show the Mullahs the door.
for those about to say is Trump being PC by saying one of the most successful immigrant groups in our countrys contemporary history, remember that many Persian immigrants are non-Muslims, mainly Jews but some Zoroastrians and Christians, who fled the Mullahs, hence why Iranian-Americans have been part of the success story, not the failure one.
Oh, Donald, that's clever! It kills three birds with one stone.
Damn, Donald, you are good! Rub it in!
i DONT know of any “persian” in L.A. who is NOT a Jew. Heck, the guys I know of in the L.A fashion district voted for Trump. The irony? Their workers are all illegals.
Persian. Seriously. A long dead empire who got their asses kicked by the Greeks multiple times.
The Persians I knew in L.A. were Maronite Christians.
same here sacramento and San diego
Their first language was French, second was Farsi, third was Arabic and fourth was English. I never met people with so many languages under their belts.
Mine were not Farsi and English. educated people, nice, teachers and the other small business owners.
I have shown houses to half a dozen Persians and met 10 or so more. Not one said they were Iranian. They want to not be associated with the religious fanatical terrorist supporters.
I knew one Iranian Muslim. He was a captain in the Iranian air force and flew his plane out of the country when the shah fell.
No one’s talking about the “Persian Empire”. It is also a genuinely distinct ethnicity in terms of language, culture, and history ... still the largest in Iran. And until 1979 and Jimmy Carter the best friends we had in that region, barring only Israel. They’re of a different stock than the Arabs, speaking a language that has more relationship with German or Greek than it has with Arabic. People forget that or they never knew. A truly nationalist movement based on Persian identity will be anti-Mullah and anti-Islam at its heart. And one has been waiting dormant since 2009 when Obama cowardly, ignorantly, or as a closet supporter of militant Islam, refused to support a nascent revolt.

Iran was progressing towards modernity until Carter turned his back on the Shah and encouraged the mullah-led opposition. I know that the Shah wasn’t perfect and had made enemies but he was trying to lead Iran into the 20th century. The same can be said for the king of Afghanistan from the same period. Women, at least in Kabul were dropping the chadri and becoming educated. The mullahs hated that.
Well, we don’t have to see Persian or Afghan women’s faces any more.
Had a fellow co-worker for thirty years, was an Iranian Christian. One of the nicest guys you’d want to work with.
Had dinner at a local Italian restaurant owned and
operated by a Persian. Friends introduced me to him.
We talked and he said he was non religious and was
particularly non Muslim. Said he took his young sons
to visit Iran months back. While there he brought the
boys to a park with many children. His kids ran around
having fun the whole time. All the other kids just hung
around like they were all depressed. He is glad his boys
are American.
Persian New Year = Aryan New Year.
Ethnically, I think Iranians are more related to Indians. They are not Arabs. They’re insulted if you call them Arabs.
My neighborhood is full of Persian Jews. And yes, they have done well for themselves here. That is cool that the President is marking this Zoroastrian holiday.
I was looking at this holiday the other day. The local Jaguar dealership has a big banner up say Happy Nowrouz or whatever it is. (Yes, Trump is right - many Iranians that moved here after the fall of the Shah are very smart and love America. The 20-somethings coming in now - probably not so much.)
It goes on for a week or more - is celebrated as a time for neighbors to come together (how PC!). BUT - one of the upcoming days they will celebrate the founder of Zoroastrianism. Some think that the Wise Men that visited Jesus were Zoroastrians from Persia.
Seriously?
How about speaking to the Persians who still today consider themselves Persians over the Ottoman realignment called Iran. I was there in the early to mid 70’s and there was a definite difference. The Green Revolution that Obama back stabbed was largely a Persian push back to the Theocracy that was foisted upon them by a whole litany of lies. They were promised with a Representative Republic if they joined the Mullahs to oust the Shah. Totally supported by Jimmie Carter.
