Disgusting: The Freedom Caucus Saves Obamacare Again
american spectator ^ | David Catron

Posted on 03/25/2017 5:33:48 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

AHCA was pulled from the floor yet again this afternoon, and it now is probable that Obamacare will be the law of the land for years to come. This is an utter disaster for U.S. health care, not to mention individual liberty, and the responsibility rests squarely on shoulders of a small cadre of political opportunists with the effrontery to call themselves the “House Freedom Caucus.”

These people held out for the impossible — full repeal of Obamacare in one fell swoop — and have thus destroyed the only realistic opportunity their party will have in the near future to eradicate the law’s individual and employer mandates, enact entitlement reform, expand HSAs, defund Planned Parenthood, halt the metastasis of Medicaid, and cut its myriad taxes.

Moreover, they have made a mockery of their group’s name by perpetuating the increasingly oppressive and powerful administrative state, leaving their constituents to the tender mercies of Beltway bureaucrats whose contempt for the taxpayers who support them is exceeded only by the breathtaking incompetence with which they mismanage everything they touch.

I thought Trump has EO’d the penalties out of the law. He told IRS not to enforce the penalty for not buying health insurance, which means the mandate is in effect dead.

Am I mistaken?

Almost every member of Congress is going to be crawling on their knees begging for help when the 2018 insurance renewal notices go out in October and November. They might as well crawl to Trump because nobody else is going to be listening.

The way I understand it, is that it (mandate penalty) is still a law, but...that he’s not going to enforce the IRS coming after you, for not paying.

Kind of like 0bie’s immigration EO.....that circumvented our existing immigration laws.

I could be wrong, but that’s my take.

but yes the Freedom Caucus probably ensured that any new bill will be more liberal

Disagree. RINORyan will have the same problem next time if he chooses to offer a "more liberal" Bill. It will never pass. The prevailing wisdom is that Paul RINO just all but committed political suicide. It is now estimated that as many as 80-100 Republicans were going to vote against Ryancare. Much of those votes were of course added at the last minute when they all realized it wasn't going to pass, but there were actually more moderate votes against it than the Freedom Caucus that you apparently hate. I thank God that we have at least a few patriot Conservatives that stayed firm against this crap sandwich, 0bamacare 2.0.

Just a slight correction .. it wasn’t an IRS penalty, but an insurance company penalty for failure to maintain insurance for more than 60 days. Which is still a mandate.

Did any of these people read the major points of Ryan’s bill?

It was a terribly flawed bill and would not have done anything to help anyone. Another Bill written by the Insurance and Medical Lobbyists.

The Republicans are as Corrupt as the Democrats.

The Republicans had over 7 years to come up with a plan other than we will repeal it and did nothing, I mean nothing. The fault is entirely with Ryan and company that sat on their Ass’ and did nothing to craft a plan that would save this country and reduce costs and give total transparency to Health Care Costs and they not just failed, they failed on a huge scale.

Trump should never have relied on Ryan and Republicans, he should have put together his on task force on this and come up with a comprehensive, yet simple plan that would work.

Of course better yet he should tell Jeff Sessions to start filing indictments and break up the Medical Monopolies so that we can drop Health Care costs by up to 80% or more. That is real reform. Put medical costs back down to 5% or so of GDP rather than now where it is 20% and climbing.

I don’t look at this as a failure on Trump’s part as much as I see this as the failure on Ryan and the GOP’s part. They will just have to go back to the drawing board without the Lobbyists.

NO, the Freedom Caucus finally stood their ground gaining strength to finally put the Grand Old Party out of it's miserable existence once and for all - JUST DIE and go away. LISTEN to us when we send you to the District of Corruption to do what you promise. 50+ repeal votes for for SCOTUScare when Obie is President because you knew it stood not a chance of being signed. NOW START DOING WHAT YOU PROMISED AND WE WANT REPEAL.

You are the guys that added "AND REPLACE". WE DO NOT WANT WASHINGTON CONTROLLING HEALTH CARE IN AMERICA.

Exactly. Any law that is passed in phases is doomed to fail. There is no guarantee that the subsequent phases will ever pass

Exactly. And the kicker is that Paul RINO didn't tell anyone that his spectacular "phase three" in which all of the real 0bamacare repeals would have required 60 votes in the Senate! When in fact, they could have passed the 2015 complete repeal Bill in the Senate with a mere 51 votes. But that would actually give the American people an actual full repeal which Paul RINO and his GOPe buddies are TOTALLY against; at least, now that there is a President that will actually sign it.

Trump has lessons to learn ... this bill was a poison pill ... and he should have NEVER backed it... The 51 vote approach can be used when ever it is needed ...

Allowing RINO Ryan to pen this bill was just below moron .

Every one needs to reflect on the fact Paul "Open Border/Amnesty" Rino would not campaign for TRUMP. IMHO this was a power play to see which of them has the upper hand.

you are delusional. It was the RINO’s that set out to doom real constitutional conservatism.

Get your facts straight.

in effect dead

for at least 4 years. But I don't know the status of that EO. Perhaps a judge is itching to block it, allowing the IRS to proceed. People would know by when--by July with a letter from the IRS about your 1040 return.

RYan would rather be in the minority and the longer he is Speaker..the better chance that is going to happen. he would rather kill Trumps agenda and lose congress . he is a democrat

EXACTLY!

Unfortunately, the impact of this “Bird Rule” is pretty unknown, and together with the fact that the House of Representatives may use the Reconciliation process only twice in one year, I have learned the HOR is ham strung.

Unless you’re Nancy Pelosi. The old girl knows how to hammer a square peg through the round hole (the Bird Rule) and land her bill into the Senate.

Her party is one big communist block by now. Our party, however, is no longer one big block of free market capitalists.

Nancy Pelosi can do that because she is the Congressional equivalent of a suicide bomber. She knew damn well that the Democrat Party would be in shambles after Obamacare was implemented, but she passed it anyway.

This article sucks. Totally fake crap.

RyanCare is ObamaCare Lite. And that’s what American Spectator wants?

We need full repeal. That’s what the Freedom Caucus, and right-minded Americans, want.

No offense, but anyone who includes a term like "... in a couple of years we would have ..." comes across as delusional at best. You don't even know who is going to control Congress in a couple of years.

No offense taken.   We  do, howver, disagree on how long it would take to fix the Obamacare mess (given the realities stated in my original post #110.   There needs to be wholesale cleanup of the realities of bought and paid for congresscritters.  I'm hoping that Trump will punch back hard with many indictments so we can clean up the congressional cesspool.

It was impossible because: There were not 60 votes in the senate, which is what a clean and replace bill would take today. (and no way to get 51 votes to implement the "nuclear option"). Getting the mess repealed had to start with reconciliation.....no other option.

I believe that you are wrong. And John Roberts actually helped us here (man, I hate saying that!) by deeming 0'care as a "tax," which of course has budgetary implications. And the Senate Parliamentarian just confirmed last week that the "nuclear option"/ "60 vote" threshold is not needed because of that. Repeal WILL pass the Senate with a mere 51 votes. Also, remember that the Vice President holds the 51st vote if any of the moderate RINOs like Murkowski vote against it.

Paul RINO was lying to EVERYONE the whole time! Because, he never wanted a full repeal.

I love how most Freepers think the AFA is going to be repealed at some point. That will never ever happen. Not now. It is now a fully inplace gov program. A program that will fail. To go the full one payer route.

So here is another program that continues to rob peter to pay Paul and give the 11 million illegals their free healthcare.

Take a look at Britain. That is us in 10 years. Our cities are sewers and I’m glad I’ll be moving the country in 5 years time.

I’m a pragmatist. Conservatives have an internal war going on right now between pragmatists and idealists.

Dems don’t care about any of that. They just want to win. They unify to win. And win they do. They have the schools and the media and they are pumping out good little socialists. The arc is moving far left and it’s not just here. It’s worldwide. But only until muslims have 70 per cent of world population. Then—this will look like the good old days.
