President Trump delivered an ultimatum to House Republicans on Thursday night: Vote to approve the measure to overhaul the nations health-care system on the House floor Friday, or reject it and the president will move on to his other legislative priorities.
The president signaled that the time for negotiations was over with rank-and-file Republicans who were meeting late at night on Capitol Hill to try to find common ground on the embattled package crafted by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.).
The move was a high-risk gamble for the president and speaker, who have both invested significant political capital in passing legislation that would rewrite the 2010 Affordable Care Act. For Trump, who campaigned as a skilled negotiator capable of forging a good deal on behalf of Americans, it could either vindicate or undercut one of his signature claims. If the measure fails, it would mean that Obamacare something that congressional Republicans have railed against for seven years would remain in place.
Disastrous #Obamacare has led to higher costs & fewer options. It will only continue to get worse! We must #RepealANDReplace. #PassTheBill, Trump tweeted from his official White House account as the meeting was wrapping up Thursday night.

Your right
There are still a lot of GOPers out there who want Trump to fail so they can get a shot at the WH and get their folks in power....and Ryan is the leader of that gang.
See 167 the requirement for 60 votes was and always has been a complete and utter falsehood. In addition the leader of the President of the Senate through rules can decide what is under the auspices of budget reconciliation and what is not. That is within his power to do so
Ryan was right. 100% right. That is one brilliant guy. From day 1, THIS is the closest youll ever get. Never again will there be a chance.
If I use an analogy of a house to obamacare, Ryan was simply doing some redecorating...he did not change the footprint of the house or even gut the interior.
The House had 8 years to plan a repeal replacement—instead they simply lifted parts of Ryan’s “Better Way” plan—that was actually stated today. So we are supposed to trust this House or some future Congress to implement future phases with the “good stuff” when they did not get their act together in 8 years?!?!
Also, even tho the deal was lousy, Ryan misled Trump that he had votes to get the deal. Trump should have never ever trusted Ryan—who has never worked in Trump’s best interest. Trump should not have gotten behind this stinker bill either.
I don’t know if obamacare will implode or if we will ever get another chance, but this Ryan bill did not repeal anything, and frankly it did not replace it—it just tweaked obamacare. Ryan even wanted to provide Ryancare to illegals!!
Ryan is a pro-immigration, open borders globalist and he has got to go!!!
Thanks to Obamacare, the health care sector now alone constitutes about as much of GDP as all the US’ international trade combined. They are problems of the same magnitude.
Someone posted a Trump Tweet from several years ago talking about how you have to know when to walk away.
85% could be overturned through budget reconciliation.
///////////
otoh...100 percent could be overturned if they would just grow a pair and
NUKE THE DAMN FILIBUSTER.
OF COURSE we’d still have Ryan. I’m thinking we are not going to MAGA with Paul Ryan as Speaker. Nope. Maybe we let this attempt die, make Ryan take the blame and resign. Win Win....then we NUKE THE DAMN FILIBUSTER, REPEAL THE DAMN OBAMACARE AND GET ROLLING.
It looks like, once again, the Lovers of Losing Caucus is going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And people wonder why “conservatives” can’t elect anyone above a Representative. What asses.
The willingness and ability to walk away from the table is the most powerful negotiating tool anybody ever has.
I think so too. The reality is that a straight repeal or taking away Medicaid and essential benefits is political suicide. The voters inside the blue wall (about 70,000 total) swung the election for Trump. Is it really worth it to lose those voters? If people lose and can’t get care, we are screwed in the next election. The purists will lose in the end because the Democrats will come in and give us something even worse than Obamacare.
So that's why we now control all branches of US government and the overwhelming majority of state houses. Got it.
“Ultimatums are not how you do deals.”
No, he’s giving them fair notice that he’s going to cut his losses and move on, President Trump has much on his plate and he always said the other option is to keep obamacare and let it collapse.
Looks like he’s exercising that option.
We are taking action to #RepealANDReplace #Obamacare! Contact your Rep & tell them you support #AHCA. #PassTheBill http://45.wh.gov/Rame8F
They botched this. Something should have been ready for Trump after 7 years. That said, Ryan needed to bring everyone together from all the caucuses. Each caucus should have presented their desires for what they wanted, and they all should have gone into a room, considered Trump’s input, and hammered that out. Then the bill could have been written, and they could have done the same after - again with Trump’s input. They needed to find a way to have as free market of a system as possible but still provide essential coverage and help to those who need it because if they don’t, they will lose swing voters, and the Democrats will swoop them up. Paul Ryan worked backwards and wrote the bill and then asked for input. Therefore, we’ve had a civil war going on to the delight of the MSM, and it looks inept. Then they needed to get public support (which is nill). If they had something with better consensus, they could have drummed up popularity and had Trump go on the road to sell it. The approval rating for this thing is dastardly. In my opinion, they might be better off to start fresh.
Trump wants to move on to taxes, but I am concerned that if we don’t get this done, it could cost us in 2018. If we do get it done wrong, it could cost us in 2018. Catch 22.
No need to pass this POS bill in a hurry when Obamacare can fail on its own and then in the next couple year when hopefully the GOP will have its shiite together, pass something we Americans can live with
You speak the truth.
President Trump has pushed this bill from day one wanting it to happen. Accepting the bill as written by Paul Ryan on the FIRST PASS. Not with any amendments by any of the Conservative watch dog groups but by this top of the heap RINO Paul Ryan.
And now the camouflage netting goes up even before the vote is taken.
My take: the Death Panels law crammed down our throats by the ‘rats was only a first step. That disaster had second and third phases, too.
Should this bill begin to reverse the effects (DJT apparently thinks so) then Republicans should pass the bill and send it to the Senate. If Valerie Jarrett’s man child can destroy good health care bit by bit, then we can change it for the better in the same wee way!
Support Trump & Ryan 100%.
It’s time for the Senate to put up or shut up.
I don’t want Obamacare to continue.
Is it better to pass something new and fix it rather than fixing obamacare?
“It will only continue to get worse! We must #RepealANDReplace.”
Yes, repeal and replace. So why are you kissing the butt of Paul Ryan and his RINOcare plan?
