Media Touts A New Study Blaming Diabetes Epidemic On Global Warming
Daily Caller ^ | March 22, 2017 | Michael Bastasch

The media is touting a new study claiming global warming could be, at least in part, to blame for the "diabetes epidemic" sweeping the globe.

"When it gets warmer, there is higher incidence of diabetes," Lisanne Blauw, a Ph.D. candidate at the Netherlands-based Einthoven Laboratory and the study's lead author, told The Huffington Post Tuesday.

"It's important to realize global warming has further effects on our health, not only on the climate," Blauw said.

I was just about to type that.

Even if global warming were true, its current effect would be similar to a shift of maybe 50-100 miles towards the equator. Is the current increase in diabetes similar to the old levels just a little farther south? Were people much more prone to diabetes in Cincinnati than in Columbus? And be sure to eliminate the effect of the population actually moving from the rust belt to the sun belt.

“Cholesterol-lowering statin drugs may significantly increase a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a new study from Finland suggests.

“Researchers found that statins were associated with an almost 50 percent higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, even after adjusting for other factors.”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25754552

“Increased risk of diabetes with statin treatment is associated with impaired insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion: a 6 year follow-up study of the METSIM cohort.

“CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION:
Statin treatment increased the risk of type 2 diabetes by 46%, attributable to decreases in insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion.”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4513492/

“World Journal of Cardiology

“We conclude that the expectation that CHD could be prevented or eliminated by simply reducing cholesterol appears unfounded... numerous studies of cholesterol lowering have failed to demonstrate a mortality benefit and the benefits of statins may have been overstated... it is clear that the cholesterol levels of those who developed CHD and those who did not overlap except when the total cholesterol level exceeded 380 mg/dL or was less than 150 mg/dL.”

tl;dr - lowering triglycerides and cholesterol with statin drugs alone provide no statistical improvement in coronary heart disease. However, statin drugs are likely responsible for a huge increase in type 2 diabetes.

There is more of a correlation between air conditioning and diabetes than global warming. Get rid of air conditioning and one will see the drop in diabetes.

Thanks for the links. Here is the complete paper (PDF):

I think we are going to be hearing much more about statins and Type III diabetes (Alzheimer's disease) in the coming years. Statins exacerbate brain insulin dysregulation.

Dentists have long suspected a relationship between Alzheimer’s (some kinds) and chronic gum infections for many years, but only recently they have been able to explain it.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4488989/

There are five types of spirochete bacteria that are common in the mouth. Typically they cannot directly reach the brain because of the blood-brain barrier, but the gum capillaries have a “direct route”. The bacteria cannot live for long in the brain, but when they die, their remains form the plaques associated with Alzheimer’s.

On the plus side, spirochetes are very susceptible to a simple remedy: baking soda. Used alternatively with regular toothpaste against enamel plaque and tartar, baking soda will kill spirochetes with just five seconds exposure.

(baking soda toothpaste is not concentrated enough, so ordinary powdered baking soda is preferred.)

Wow! Does this mean that if I move to Alaska or that town where polar bears swarm every year, I can go back to eating all the ice cream I want?
