False news story by an ignorant reporter. A lot of agricultural operations are using H2-A visa labor. Americans with the existing welfare system aren't going to come out to the farm and work. H2-A visa holders are single men, they don't bring their families, are provided food and shelter, and work for a set period of time and then have to return home.

....and what are the labor arrangements at the Pelosi Winery in the Napa Valley?
Are all of the workers at the Napa Winery legally documented?

I disagree. They aren’t paying enough to get American applicants.
The only good thing I can say about it is they are hiring legally and only 29 people.

Americans with the existing welfare system aren't going to come out to the farm and work. What you mean is that they won't come out to the farm and work for $10.72 an hour. Answer is to pay more.

My dad was not too proud to work in the fields. Was grateful to get the work. In fact, our entire family including grandma, aunt, uncle, cousins, mom, dad and us kids often turned out to pick cotton, cut grapes etc. Sheila’s dad worked full time tending orchards his entire life.
Maybe the winery needs to offer a little more in wages.

There is a big difference between illegal border jumpers and legal immigrant residents seeking jobs rather than benefits.

This reporter should investigate the foreign workers at Nancy Pelosi’s vineyards.

The price of food is most interesting. I saw what appears to be a woman with small 3 kids small roll up to the supermarket cashier with a full cart. Her bill was something like $175.00. For a cart of food? It appeared to be the normal stuff some woman would buy for the family. I joked to her that she has some hungry kids...She said it'll would be gone in less than a week. The lines were huge and registers were smoking taking in all the cash, and this store is 24 hours open. 1 store.
So it begs the questioning, they're raking in huge amounts of cash for food, so why can't these growers simply pay a livable wage to legitimate citizens?

Foreign migrant workers have been a big part of American agriculture for a long time.
Unless you want a temporary job and live like a Gypsy you will not take these jobs.
In these kinds of jobs, I absolutely believe it is not possible to employ Americans on any kind of meaningful basis.

Was delighted to see a bottle of Trump wine in the Roanoke Krogers the other other day, and to learn the grapes are harvested right here near the GW Forest. (Visiting family in VA).
Was not delighted with the $24 price, on sale from $26.
Now to learn they’re paying cheap foreign labor wages?
Why so ‘spensive?
To: artichokegrower
Americans with the existing welfare system aren't going to come out to the farm and work. That would depend on the wages being offered wouldn't it?
There is no justification to hire foreigners to do labor in the USA with 100 million out of the work force. this is corruption and it needs to stop.

I have no problem with legal and documented foreign worker using work permits. It is the way the system is supposed to work and would be a great step forward to solving the crisis.
It is the illegal workers with no permits or documentation, using stolen or forged SSNs, bleeding our social programs, not paying taxes and demanding citizenship. That is the problem.

Americans with the existing welfare system aren't going to come out to the farm and work. Why not?
No work? Cut them off.
