Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to STEP DOWN after his anti-Trump vow to hire 10,000 refugees backfired

Complete Headline: Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to STEP DOWN after his anti-Trump vow to hire 10,000 refugees backfired, provoked a boycott by Donald supporters and hit sales.

Howard Schultz, the current CEO of Starbucks, is weeks away from stepping down from his role at the giant coffee chain next month.

The move, which was announced in December of last year, comes after his vow to hire thousands refugees in response to President Donald Trump's first travel ban appeared to hurt customer sentiment and dent their sales.

Trump supporters have called for a boycott of the chain since January 29, when Schultz vowed to hire 10,000 refugees over five years.

Schultz in a letter to employees said the promise of the American Dream was 'being called into question' and that 'the civility and human rights we have all taken for granted for so long are under attack.'

“Trump supporters have called for a boycott of the chain since January 29, when Schultz vowed to hire 10,000 refugees over five years.”

Ten thousand over five years - in 75 countries. In other words, 27 hires per country, per year (average). That won’t even make a dent in employee turnover due to transgender surgery.

In other words, meaningless dog whistle to liberals and other young urbanites. But they got 10 million dollars in free advertising when they announced their gesture.

On Jan 25 Starbucks was at 58.70. A week later it was all the way down to 53.87. A loss of almost 10%.

Now the former CEO is going to lead development of an upscale Starbucks? LOL! Make Coffee Even More Expensive!

Not sure FReepers were largely responsible, but we certainly did our part. There is a substantial Reddit community that is very active. Kind of how FR was about 15 or so years ago.

They need to salt the floor space upon which his office stood.

I noticed that too - the article made no sense. Seems like you and I are the only ones that noticed that.

That’s not to say that I’m not glad he’s leaving.

The timeline does not support the article’s core assertion. In fact, quite the reverse.

Whatever happened to basic reading comprehension and logic? We used to have these things as a society, or at least acted like we valued them.

Yep, my first thought as well. Typically garbled Daily Mail reporting. They are truly incapable of coherent reporting.

As with all journalism today, the body of the story is the “news,” and the headline is “advertising,” no doubt to aid Starbuck’s flagging sales with offended customers.
