The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Michigan $100 million in grant money to replace the Flint water system’s damaged infrastructure. The Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016 provided the funding for this grant that would help Flint replace its lead water pipes that have fallen into disrepair, the EPA said in a statement.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said this grant is part of the Trump administration’s goal to improve the country’s water infrastructure.

“EPA will especially focus on helping Michigan improve Flint’s water infrastructure as part of our larger goal of improving America’s water infrastructure,” Pruitt said.

Michigan Republicans and Democrats praised the EPA’s decision to fund efforts to repair Flint’s water system.

I am sympathetic to that view, however...

1. The infrastructure needs to be replaced

2. Isn’t this the federal government in effect taking less money from the region by returning money to it?

3. Isn’t that something we wanted, the federal government taking less?

4. If Trump can realize big savings elsewhere, isn’t this a worthy exchange?

5. Does the federal government stand any responsibility to help Flint replace the infrastructure the federal government helped to destroy? The federal policy to facilitate sending jobs overseas did severely impact Flint’s tax base.

As I understand it, Flint does have a Leftist city government that has royally screwed up too.

What would you suggest here?

Provide a suggestion how you would resolve the situation?

I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t simply say, “Don’t extend federal funds and I don’t care what else happens.”

The citizens of Flint need something to be done. What would be your suggestion to avoid the federal government having to help here?

There is nothing evil about the federal government returning tax dollars to states and municipalities. If you think about it, that is the federal government returning funds to localities across the nation.???

Yes there is. Pay for your own crap. If Feds have that much left over for grants and freebies to states and local governments then give it back yo taxpayers and you locals pay for your own stuff.

Oh and by the way thanks Lord for the responses to D1, Cruz is my senator and I want him exactly right there in the senate, no SC or POTUS. I like my senator.

The Michigan legislature needs to de-certify government unions.

I just told you that Trump has cut $100 billion in the last two months, and we’re talking about (around) $100 million here. (don’t remember the exact figure)

Does that sound like overall support for big government spending?

It sounds to me like it’s support for saving $99.9 billion dollars.

Sorry you don’t support that.

The locals made the choice to change where they got their water and the pumping process.
You pay for it, or Michigan.

100 billion is a drop in the bucket, we need to abolish major departments big time, except defense and border control

You can have him. Hopefully there will be openings in the local animal control facility.

As for paying for my own crap, you probably drive just about every day on a federally funded government road. If you don’t, many others do. Your hospitals would close their doors if federal tax dollars were to suddenly stop.

Folks, our infrastructure needs to be upgraded. At times we will have to step in and help with local areas that can’t do it on their own for whatever reason.

You poor thing. Reality is a bitch isn’t it.

You like roads. You like the hospital to be there for you.

Buck up. In time you’ll feel better.

The federal government will step in like it has for others over time.

The federal government makes block grants for many things. Some of it is terrible, and other parts aren’t as bad.

Hopefully Trump will bring back jobs and tax bases will once again be able to pay for projects like this.

Flints city manager may have royally screwed up here. The feds sure didn’t help.

Now something needs to be done.

Well, I’m not able to pay for it, but I contributed over the years to pay a share of many projects.

Trump stated he was going to rebuild our infrastructure and this is part of that.

Aww, you’re flailing, and it’s so painful to watch.

Which roads have you sworn off using ace?

Where are you going to get your medical care?

Gosh, you’ve got some tough choices coming up.
