The City of Seattle continues to refuse to disclose how much money it's making from the gun and ammunition tax.
"One can presume or suspect that the revenue is nowhere near what they projected," said Dave Workman of GUNMAG.com, who filed suit for the statistics.
The City passed legislation in 2015 to charge gun shops $25 for every gun sale and a nickel for every round of ammunition, projecting that it would raise up to $500,000 a year for gun violence prevention programs. It went into effect in January 2016.
Yet, as we near the 2nd quarter of 2017, the numbers have not been released.
"You're a public agency, a municipality. You're collecting taxes. The public has a right to know what you're collecting," said Workman.
He believes, as does Sergey Solyanik, that the city is embarrassed to reveal their projections are far below expectations.
Solyanik moved his Precise Shooter store to Lynnwood from Green Lake after the law went into effect. The Precise owner says he made the move because the tax cut into his already small margins.
"There was sales tax revenue, and they didn't get any revenue from the tax, Solyanik said. That's why they're not releasing the numbers. They're afraid this will come out and become public."

people are going out to Bellevue or Kent to buy their firearms.
Exactly. Plenty of options just outside Seattle. Would be a no-brainer.
I bought mine from Cabela’s in Marysville, just 30 minutes north of Seattle.
Only if you live in Mountlake Terrace. Getting out of downtown would take you 45 to an hour...
I used to drive down to Federal Way Discount Guns when price was my only objective. Now that I live in Arlington and no longer work in South Seattle, that’s not a realistic option.
I went through two kitchen table FFL’s that gave good deals, but they both eventually got out of the business.
Now, I shop around up north. I’ve bought from Northpoint, Skagit Arms, and Cabela’s.
Cabela’s isn’t bad if you shop the sales and take into account Cabela’s bucks. You can also negotiate on gun library prices, and they usually come down some.
If they admitted how much they took in they would have to tell and justify how they spent the money.
Got to love these “open” liberal administrations.
Could be it has cost Seattle more than they collected?
Kind of sad that Kesselrings closed down.
You are right during heavier traffic periods. We drove frequently from Smokey Point to Univ of Seattle, and chose to avoid rush hour traffic, and usually it was 35 minutes.
My particular handgun was on sale and was very good price at Cabela’s. So you are right, gotta watch prices and negotiate for some free ammo.
They lost their FFL due to shenanigans. Last I checked, they were still open as an ammo and gear shop.
These are the same liberals who bash Trump for not releasing his taxes. Hypocrites, every one!
Oh, the transparency!

Seattle is liberal lala land. EVERYTHING liberals touch turns to crap. What the records will show is that gun and ammo retailers moved out of King County and the taxes collected were negligible. Their $15/hr minimum wage resulted in employees asking for fewer hours because they were losing their government benefits.
I’m not from the area, and Praise God just got our daughter moved back to the midwest from that liberal rat hole.
I’d be curious to know how many gun shops have left Seattle since the tax went into effect.
This is the same collection of libidiots who wanted to levy an annual tax on all septic tank owners in King County because someone had found fecal matter “leaching” into Puget Sound. They had no idea or evidence of where it came from, but wanted to levy the tax in order to raise money and “study the issue”. Probably one or more of their 10’s of thousands of drunken homeless had just dropped a deuce along the shoreline where they’d tested.
The fact that the electorate in Seattle allowed the persons who are employed by them to enact such a fool hardy tax shows how Liberalism is truely a sickness that needs to be recognized. i will donate to the “Never cure moonbats” for our own good fund! keep the mental midgets doing these self-destructive moves as it will hasten there demise from self-inflicted wounds.
