Daylight-saving time is dumb and we should get rid of it

Steel yourself: It's nearly time to turn our clocks forward an hour for the start of daylight-saving time (DST).
This arcane and terrible ritual officially starts on March 13, 2016.
At 1:59 a.m. on Sunday morning, our clocks will wind forward an hour to 3:00 a.m. instead of 2:00 a.m.
That gives us one less hour of sleep and means the sun will rise an hour later than we're used to.

My grandpa had one old Illinois railroad watch and that was it for the house. I still have the watch, but it needs a new mainspring because it runs too slow and the adjustment to tighten it up is all used up. :0(

I wouldn’t care if it were DST or Standard time, but whichever one makes more sense, let’s stay on same time all year. I think if the Congress adopted a year round Standard time for Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, all the States would go along.

I'm the opposite. I care very much if it's dark when I get up. Can't stand getting up in the dark. And I'd hate it if I was younger and had to stand in the dark for much of the school year waiting for the bus. I don't care if it gets dark soon after I get home because the hard part--the getting up--is already over. I loathe DST.
To: Old Retired Army Guy
Maybe, but it would be hated enough over here that I think only DST would fly.

It should not be light at 9 in the evening. Putting the kids to bed when the sun is up is BSIt's Summer. They can stay up later.

Daylight-saving time is dumb and we should get rid of it Yes it is DUMB; it was enacted by congress so how could you get anything that isn't?

Funny. I had to get up at 4AM to deliver the newspaper when I was a kid. The sun didn’t come up until after 7. I guess that’s why they make alarm clocks.

I've had to get up in the dark too for some jobs--and for all jobs at some times of the year. That doesn't mean I want my government to mandate that I do more of that nonsense. I guess some people (like me) love getting up to the first rays of light and other people enjoy having an extra hour of sun in the evening.

They shouldn’t be dragged to school at 7 am? But who would fix them breakfast? You mean parents should fix their kids breakfast? Shocking...

“the sun will rise an hour later than we’re used to”.....
Until the sun burns out, it will rise the same time every day forever, it’s a clock problem. not the sun’s.
I agree daylight savings time is USELESS.

“I like DST
An extra hour in the afternoon.”
So get up earlier.
I like more light in the morning.
Let’s leave each other’s clocks alone and adjust our own schedules as appropriate.

The test separates leaders from followers. 97% feel obligated to answer 34 and 45 even though its factually wrong AND 34 and 45 are in the 97%. The 97% will get it wrong statement is key. Nobody believes that 97% of the population doesn't know what 8+5 equals. So they figure it's a trick question and try to see a hidden answer. But that's the trick...getting them to not choose the obvious answer.

I'm in favor of "Weekend Savings Time".
In the spring, at 6 PM on Wednesday night, spring ahead 2 days to 6 PM on Friday night
In the fall, at 1:00 AM on Monday morning, spring back 2 days to 1:00 AM on Saturday morning.
Problem solved.

That’s a very good suggestion. I could make that work, even with two dogs around.

I didn’t, because some self-absorbed idiots made all the clocks change but sick kids don’t instantly follow the new schedule.
