The president has the ability to fire the FBI Director. It was last done in 1993 by Bill Clinton.
The fact that Trump hasn't done so with Comey leads me to believe he has a reason for keeping him. I trust Trump on this and will let events play out.

Exactly right.
No one, including no FReepers, knows the inside story on Comey and his role in all this. Trump and Sessions do, and the choices are to trust that they are handling the situation correctly or to conclude they are incompetent.
