Health Reform: Seven years after vowing to repeal ObamaCare, Republicans have labored to produce plan that replaces ObamaCare with . ObamaCare.
The plan released Monday called the American Health Care Act has some good parts. It repeals ObamaCare's multitude of largely hidden but no less destructive taxes on health insurance plans, medical devices, flexible spending accounts and so on. It gets rid of ObamaCare's individual mandate and the job-killing employer mandate.
It expands the amount of money that can be contributed to Health Savings Accounts, the one health reform that has actually worked to lower costs. It's age-based, refundable tax credit for individual insurance is an improvement over ObamaCare's unpredictable, Rube Goldberg subsidy scheme.
But, as Vox.com's Sarah Kliff noted: "A curious thing has happened to the Republican replacement plan as it has evolved through multiple drafts: it has begun to look more and more like ObamaCare itself."
We'd go further and say that this bill would end up putting Republicans on record as supporting all the key elements of ObamaCare:

Somebody yesterday in an article stated after analyzing the new proposal that both the mandate and the penalty are still in and in fact reiterated in the this stinker.
Yes. Anyone who thinks there is a magic wand to fix this entire situation in one fell swoop is delusional.
GPOe will cave on everything.
I suspect the mandate is there, but in a more “constitutionally friendly” way.
i.e. instead of forcing you to pay x dollars, they increase everyone’s taxes by x dollars and then give them an x dollar tax credit for buying insurance.
That makes me sick, but at least the government is not forcing me to buy a product.
BTW, this is exactly what the USPS did to large producers of bulk mail back at the turn of the century. They raised the rate, but if you used their address rules, you got a huge discount - to exactly what the rate was before they raised it. :-)
Make it mandatory that each member of congress, their families and staff participate..that will entice them to do the right thing. As long as they are exempt, except cosmetically, nothing will change.

Agreed.
My suggestion was that on DAY ONE he should have signed an EO in regards to Obamascare that EVERYONE will have to participate.
1 employee or 100,000.
All Representatives and their families.
All the exemptions (real and/or imagined..Unions, muslims etc) dropped.
If you get a government check, be it welfare, tax refund, student loan, GI Bill, payroll, SS, etc etc etc you MUST be enrolled and participate.
It wouldn’t have taken long for a reasonable plan that didn’t triple the premiums and make the deductible 20 thousand or so.
OF course, leave the VA exemption alone....HA HA....
Here's an example. I don't have Medicate Parts B or D (no, they aren't required). Just over a year ago, I dislocated a shoulder.....it wasn't cheap. But after the initial costs, there were places to save. I didn't use pain killers or any expensive meds...just a few Advil. I only did five Physical Therapy visits, and instead did a lot of research to implement an exercise routine. When I needed a shoulder brace, I got it online for $30. How much more do you think it would've cost if the bills were paid through insurance, with no scrutiny?
Trump just tweeted that this was their opening round. He mentioned versions 2 and 3. I’m heartened.
Yes. And the most important part of a replacement should MANDATE participation by all Congresscritters, wasting time in office AND “retired”.
Excuse me, but for 8 years Rush and everyone else has been saying “Get rid of the individual mandate and Obamacare is dead.”
Now that’s suddenly not true?
I agree. My hopes were limiited to eliminating the mandates.
Woody said ‘3’ yards.
Great man.
” The key elements are the mandates and all the taxes that are being removed as stated earlier in the article.”
Right. One step at a time.
I paid about $150 a month for a family of 4. I think the employer cost was about $600.
For the longest time I paid $15 to see ANYONE. Specialist, regular doctor, etc. Eventually it went to $25 and $50 for a specialist.
I had a deductible of something like $300.
Now I am paying about $1000 a month. I have something like $1300 individual deductibles.
When I meet the deductible, I have 20% c0-pay which doesn't sound like much until you get the bills. Oh, you went to the OB-GYN for a birth control consult---that's $300. They made you come back for a follow up? That's $150. You had a mole removed and it was sent to pathology--Ok well that was $1500. You had the anesthesiologist come in to numb it? Well that was $2750.
20% of real numbers adds up ---
“Trump should tell them to shove it until he gets what he wants.”
Trump likes this bill! But he said it’s only a start, wait until “phase ii and phase iii”.
One thing the dems do really well: advance their agenda one inch at a time and never give ground.
Republicans tend to be impatient and want it all fixed yesterday, and give ground all the time (Sessions recusal, case in point)
We were given this mess one inch at a time, it’ll have to be destroyed same.
Trust Trump.
“I suspect the mandate is there, but in a more constitutionally friendly way.
i.e. instead of forcing you to pay x dollars, they increase everyones taxes by x dollars and then give them an x dollar tax credit for buying insurance.”
It’s actually worse than a mandate. The mandate forced the people who use medical services to pay for their own insurance. This instead taxes some people to pay for other people’s insurances.
Another federal welfare program.
“Now I am paying about $1000 a month. I have something like $1300 individual deductibles. “
Unless you’re sick all the time, you’re better off without insurance.

When did we become so impatient???? It’s ball one, no strikes, no men on, bottom of the first.
Settle down....he will get this done and done well.
Just repeal Obama care, replacing is not the reposibility of the govt. Waste of time, send Congress home. Get Govt OUT of our lives
Well my wife and I are extremely healthy. Rate got up to $1300 a month with $6,000 deductibles each. We no longer have health insurance (we have an alternative).
I cannot freaking believe this. Even a large plurality of the left wants obungholecare repealed.
I’m beginning to think Trump has too many squishy advisors around him.
Kick the world’s ass Mr. President. Do not compromise on anything. You can win most of these battles. Especially this one.
