WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

I’m leaning that way too. This is playing with fire .. what Comey is suggesting.
This should have been handled differently from the beginning. Making midnight tweets making accusations against former (if reprehensible) president or his administration is NOT how you present it to the American people.
Even if Spicer presents proof in Monday’s press conference, the evidence should have been released with the accusation up front.
While I generally approve of Trump’s intent, this could have been handled so much more gracefully.

The evidence needs to be looked at and THEN a decision can be made.

You know... boy, I hate to say this, but President Trump really needs to come out and explain EXACTLY what’s going on here, because everyone’s anxiety level has risen about three notches because of this.
A couple of tweets won’t do it. Nor will a statement refusing to say anything else. We-the-people deserve an explanation from everyone involved on both sides. In English.

The NYT cites “senior American officials,” and you take it seriously? This is like the coyote thinking he can trust the roadrunner. Or put another way, when was the last big Trump-related story the NYT broke that turned out to be true?
