I don't think Obama can be prosecuted in a normal criminal court for something that took place while he was president.

I think the case would be the equivalent of an impeachment, with the only punishment available would be to strip him of his pension and anything he gets at the expense of taxpayers.

Yes he can. Federal prosecutors were preparing to indict Nixon but Ford issued a pardon. If they couldn't prosecute him then why the pardon?

Yes he can. It's why Ford pardoned Nixon.

The punishment would be to wake up more of the hundred million who don’t usually participate in the vote.

I think he is just an ordinary citizen, and can be prosecuted for any crime he committed.

*****************************************************

It appears he can be charged criminally, but is immune from civil liability:

From : http://lawnewz.com/high-profile/yes-obama-could-be-prosecuted-if-involved-with-illegal-surveillance/

“Can a President be charged with a crime? Only once out of office. While in office, impeachment remains the exclusive remedy in order to avoid a single judicial branch trying to overturn an election, such as a grand jury in any part of the country could. Once out of office, a President remains immune from civil liability for his duties while President, under a 1982 decision of the United States Supreme Court. However, as the Nixon pardon attests, nothing forecloses a criminal prosecution of the President after his presidency is complete for crimes against the country. Obama, the Constitutional lawyer, should know that.”

The ex president can be indicted on charges of conspiracy to over throw the government of the United States. He need not be directly attached to the order for the wire tap if he is one of a body of conspirators. Rather than be executed, someone might find it in their best interest to squeal.
