While Trump may claim hes for states rights, Attorney General Jeff Sessions just pissed on the opinions of about 71% of Americans who do not believe the federal government should attempt to ram federal laws down the throats of states where voters have legalized marijuana.
After Press Secretary Sean Spicer essentially warned everyone last week that the Trump administration plans to crack down on states with recreational marijuana laws, AG Sessions backed that up on Monday with some bizarre statements that prove the guy actually believes Reefer Madness was a documentary.
Via Politico:
Most of you probably know I dont think America is going to be a better place when more people of all ages and particularly young people start smoking pot, Sessions said during an exchange with reporters at the Justice Department. I believe its an unhealthy practice and current levels of THC in marijuana are very high compared to what they were a few years ago.
Were seeing real violence around that, Sessions said. Experts are telling me theres more violence around marijuana than one would think and theres big money involved.
. If there is any violence around marijuana, its due entirely to the black market created by the phony drug war, not the actual drug itself, as pointed out by chairman of the drug policy reform group Marijuana Majority Tom Angell:
By talking about marijuana and violence, the attorney general is inadvertently articulating the strongest argument that exists for legalization, which is that it allows regulated markets in a way that prohibition does not.
Prohibition keeps drug cartels in business and needlessly puts thousands of Americans behind bars.
But then again, that must be why Sessions also reversed the DOJ plan to phase out the for-profit prisons last week; theyre going to need somewhere to put all those non-violent drug offenders once the federal crackdown on a benign plant legalized in over half the country begins.
Colorado saw a spike in crime/murders http://kdvr.com/2016/05/24/prosecutors-colorado-sees-increase-in-murders-motivated-by-marijuana/
When these users start dying of cancers related to this nasty substance, there should be no public funding of their plight. In the early ‘80s, NBC TV had one of their “White Paper” reports on the use of cocaine, which stated it was safe and non-addictive. We all know how true that turned out to be, how many billions that has cost the country, and how many have died from that lie. Beware of “experts” who are bought by those who profit on the weakness of others.
We’re probably on the same page.
Regulate and legislate the USE within the states and localities.
As I’ve said before, we wouldn’t outlaw wood products to prevent arson.
Not a MJ user, or a big fan of those who are, but this is gun-control logic at it’s finest. Tiny subset “a” cannot behave responsibly, therefore the FedGov will make “x” illegal for everyone.
And if you disagree with them they’ll follow you all over the place, lol!
As I always say, legalized pot makes you say things like “What is Aleppo?”
The United States is bound by international treaties in which the legalization of marijuana or the trafficking in marijuana is a violation of said treaty.
Now read this:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
Now should Sessions ignore the Constitution and allow States to engage in Marijuana Trafficking?
Suddenly everyone embraces Globalism?
(just read a little about this treaty...)
No, I just think anyone who purposefully ingests a mind controlling substance is a moron.
A treaty can be supreme but not against the Constitution itself otherwise the entire document can be set to naught by a treaty.
Maybe Sessions should just ignore Immigration laws as well.
“Perhaps he care about the developing brains of our yutes?”
It’s for the children. Funny how people want ‘Big Daddy’ to put a boot on someone’s neck for them. If, as a nation, we are going to further restrict Cannabis then we should go full bore and re-instate prohibition of alcohol.
Prohibition is a great excuse to keep building up those all important SWAT teams.
I don’t have a problem with taking federal drug laws to SCOTUS for final say, JUST DO IT!
I wish they’d lighten up on the Federal Income tax evasion laws also.
I can’t describe how badly “modern” pot smells. It is a horrific smell.
And you should probably stop jumping to conclusions and continue reading... dude.
Where is there a constitutional right to cultivate, sell or otherwise engage in the trafficking of marijuana?
Is it in the same penumbras that gives a woman a right to an abortion?
And if you disagree with them theyll follow you all over the place, lol!
As I always say, legalized pot makes you say things like What is Aleppo?
and “Who is Ben Gazzi?”
“Marijuana has been juiced up since the 60s. Its MUCH stronger.”
Which means you don’t have to use as much for medicinal benefits as in the 60’s & 70’s.
What a bunch of BS. Did you actually READ the article?
It’s all about ILLEGAL DRUGS SALES. Yes, people still sell illegal cannabis illegally. Criminals fight over turf & will kill each other now & then just as they always have. Criminal drug dealers are just that, CRIMINALS and they should be arrested just as they were BEFORE cannabis was legalized in Colorado & the other illegal states. Article cites a case where someone was killed while trying to sell cannabis illegally.
Can’t prohibitionists just get over themselves?
“Now should Sessions ignore the Constitution and allow States to engage in Marijuana Trafficking? “
Since the legal states aren’t actually do that you should try again.
If they want to use marijuana, they need to change the laws about it.
