Theres a fun little food fight breaking out in the state of Illinois this week which is sure to have public worker union advocates spitting nails. There was a recent vote among members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union authorizing a strike if Governor Bruce Rauner did not cave in to their demands. In response, the governor set up a new website inviting citizens to apply for government positions.

Ya think Rauner has “borrowed” some testosterone from Trump?
Time to end public sector unions.
Hope this gets a lot of media coverage, and that the demands by the public employee’s union, to a state that is virtually bankrupt, are put out there for everyone to know about. Hiring non-union workers in the event of a strike, just might bring this issue to a very dramatic flashpoint.
OMG that would be great. Unions are unnecessary these days. Employees are treated better, have healthcare, many have 401Ks, paid vacations and holidays. Why pay dues?
Given the bloody history of such things in Chicago, this will not end well.
Awesome! Hire Free Men to replace the socialist-organized “labor” force!
Up with FREEDOM!
Down with the AFSCME!!!
The “scabs” had better be well armed.
Why use leftist terminology?
Mighty gutsy for Illinois grade GOP
Maybe the worst of these scabrous gangsters is that they don’t care if they bankrupt the state. Even Rauner isn’t tolerating that.
From the article:
But what are the specific demands driving the current negotiations to this precipice?
The state is asking the workers to pick up an increased share of their healthcare coverage premiums. The states union workers are receiving platinum level benefits while paying bronze level prices. On average, taxpayers pick up nearly $15,000 annually in health care costs for every AFSCME workers platinum-level plan.
State employees who work 20 years or more for the state also receive free health insurance during their retirement. This additional benefit has a cash value of anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000 for individual retirees, all paid for by taxpayers.
They are also upset that the governor would like to see overtime pay not begin until someone has actually worked 40 hours in a given week. Currently overtime begins after 37.5 hours.
The Horror! The Horror!
These people don’t get it-municipalities cannot do this. They are going to go broke.
If only GOV. RAUNER would have an epiphany concerning ABORTION.
I suspect you could fire half the state workers and get better service from the state agencies. No need to replace.
This is interesting because Caterpillar UAW contract just ended at midnight last night. Most labor plants are in IL and they working without a contract today. Union already approved a strike if necessary.
The union workers are just paying what they gain to their union bosses, it is just a con game and always has been.
I live in Wheeling, IL, and I agree with your comment about abortion. Do you think that Gov. Rauner will sign the bill that will give tax money for abortions? If he signs it, do you hope that a conservative will run against him, in the primary? If so, who should run? If hope the ticket will be State Sen. Kyle McCarter and State Rep. Tom Morrison.
