George W. Bush Favors A ‘Welcoming’ Immigration Policy, Says Media Is ‘Indispensable’ To Democracy

George W. Bush said he favored a welcoming immigration policy and warned that the media is "indispensable to democracy" in an interview with Matt Lauer Monday that seemed to take several shots at President Trump.

When Lauer asked Bush directly if he was for or against Trump's immigration ban, Bush said, "I am for an immigration policy that's welcoming and upholds the law."

"I think it's very important for all of us to recognize that one of our great strengths is for people to be able to worship the way they want to, or not worship at all," Bush said. "A bedrock of our freedom is the right to worship freely. People who murder the innocent are not religious people. They want to advance an ideology."

Laure asked Bush if he thought the ban was helpful in the war on terrorism.

"It's very hard to fight the war on terrorism if we're in retreat," Bush answered. "I think we learned that lesson -- that if the United States decides to pull out before a free society emerges, it's going to be hard to defeat them. The enemy is very good about exploiting weakness. If that's the goal, to defeat ISIS, I believe that we should project strength."

The former president acknowledged that Trump has only a little over a month in office.

"I think you have to take the man for his word that he wants to unify the country, and we'll see whether he's able to do so," Bush said. "It's hard to unify the country with the news media being so split up. When I was president, you know, you mattered a lot more because there was like three of you, and now there's all kinds of information being bombarded out and people can say things anonymously. It's just a different world."

Former President Dumbass refused to enforce the laws when he was President in a cynical attempt to force us into amnesty. TWICE!

Here’s a theory:

Why are we now hearing George W. Bush criticizing Trump and making noises about a special prosecutor for Trump and the Russians?

Bush is VERY tied in to the Deep State and the Neocon part of it.

The NSA/CIA/FBI have had all the communication intercepts from telephone calls, emails etc for quite a while now.

They know what they have in the way of evidence, and they are just playing their cards one at a time in a coordinated plan to remove Trump and bring back globalism/open borders/free trade. They probably have in the loop Bush, McCain, and the rest of the globalist power structure. Notice that Darryl Issa has jumped on the special prosecutor bandwagon to try to get in front of it.

Trump and Sessions better drain that damn swamp PDQ before it drowns them.

Civilian labor force participation : Percent or rate 16 years and over!

Duh, you don't need a phd from Stanford or Harvard to see there is a relationship between the two graphs.

Thanks for a great and timely post.

Exactly.....8 years of silence and now this. The only reason “W” won elections is because he ran against even bigger losers than himself.

What is wrong, after all, about insisting that only people who are predisposed to LIKE the United States are to be allowed to enter?

Those who consider the United States to be the center of evil in the world nave no business here anyway, if only for their own moral welfare - why would they want to visit such a den of inequity? But more than that, if they believe the United States to be unworthy of their respect and admiration, then they come here only as a concealed criminal, with malice aforethought directed at causing the collapse of all that is America. And this is indistinguishable from being an enemy agent.

And further, as a guest of the United States, it is expected that in no way shall they become a burden upon the people already here - that they come with some basic understanding of our language and customs, and they are able to pay their own way once here, without relying in any way upon the social network that, frankly, was established for the benefit of unfortunate citizens who have slipped through the cracks. And if these visitors come with the intent of working, bring some marketable skills, we absolutely don’t need to import any unskilled manual labor. Better the jobs go unfilled until they may be automated, than to create an underclass that shall never advance to any rung of the ladder.

George Bush is revealing himself to be exactly what I saw him to be about mid 1999.

Voted for three Bushes. Now I understand that the whole family, especially the stupid and lazy Bush cows-- Bar, Laura, Columba and the Imbecile Twins-- hold honest Americans and veterans in complete contempt. This week Boozy Barbara will be pimping abortion. W never stood up for the veterans, but he always stood up for criminal illegal aliens.

Idea--get Jeb's shiftless moron of a son out of office in Texas.

Dallas Texas 2006, during war time, under Republican George Bush.

500,000 illegal aliens march on Dallas Texas pushing foreign flags in our faces and while making demands and threats. All while Bush celebrated Cinco De Mayo up in the White House each year...During war time.

I’m okay with a smaller legal immigration system, but I insist that legal should be the only way to immigrate here. Deport every illegal. No exceptions.

No, you’re theory falls flat for one big error. Trump was not assisted by the Russians. None, not at all. That’s a Democrat and neocon fiction to support their new cold war. Nothing more.

Kabar, I love the stats you post up, but there's an easier and more direct way to rebut the status quo: the US budget deficit & cumulative nat'l debt.

The pet phrase with those of us from a business background is "what's the bottom line"? Using this approach, it completely avoids subjective opinion aka politics, but rather simply inquires as to effectiveness.

If the US was running small/nominal budget deficits (under $25b), we wouldn't even need to discuss employment rate, participation rate, etc, etc. By definition, every measure of the economy would be stellar.

But because we're closer to $1t annual deficits, and a $20t cumulative nat'l debt, from direct evidence and observation, we can categorically state that **all** current policies (immigration, trade deals, regulations, etc) are "bad".

What is wrong is obvious. Those who hate America will vote for democrats, which is why the party of communists wants legal and illegal immigrants who hate us and who hate our Constitution.
