In the most shocking mix-up in Oscars history, Moonlight won best picture at the Academy Awards but only after presenter Faye Dunaway announced La La Land as the winner, setting off mass confusion inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
I want to tell you what happened, co-presenter Warren Beatty explained after the mix-up was revealed. I opened the envelope, and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. Thats why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasnt trying to be funny.
Well, I dont know what happened. I blame myself for this, Kimmel joked after the moment. Lets remember, its just an awards show. I mean, we hate to see people disappointed, but the good news is we got to see some extra speeches. We have some great movies. I knew I would screw this show up, I really did. Thank you for watching. Im back to work tomorrow night on my regular show. I promise Ill never come back. Good night!
Speaking after the mix-up had been rectified, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said, Very clearly, very clearly in my dreams this could not be true. But to hell with my dreams. Im done with it because this is true. Oh my goodness.
He added a note of praise to his La La Land opponents: And I have to say it is true. Its not fake. Weve been on the road with these guys for so long. My love to La La Land. My love to everybody. Man.
After the Oscars, PricewaterhouseCoopers which tabulates the Oscar votes released a statement apologizing for the flub: We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement...

This is my take as well.
I totally avoided the show last night. Awoke to reports of this major gaffe, and are enjoying it. The screw-up is the story, and not the left political speeches that were undoubtedly made throughout the night.
What a shame.
No...the Oscars are "SO WHAT?".
The truth is, most of the “black” movies are unwatchable propaganda or they just suck as entertainment.
I’m sure people in the culture they were written around do enjoy them, though. That’s just not MY culture.
And I find the same thing is now true with romantic comedies in general. The culture has changed enough that my wife and I (63 years old) simply can’t relate to them. Gone are the days of movies like Sleepless in Seattle.
I’m sure young people can relate to them though.
For comedy to be funny, it has to be based on reality. If it is based on a reality that is from a culture that is not mine, it just doesn’t work.
Though we did enjoy Under the Tuscan Sun...
[Why dont they just hand out participation trophies for everyone.
And why do they have to have separate awards for men and women, thats sexist.]
Give it time.
I’ve not taken the “best Picture” award seriously since Annie Hall beat Star Wars.
No, I’m not kidding. That was a farce.
I boycotted the show. I saw sports and Fox’s prime time lineup after Daytona and also was at the park before sundown. Went to bed early so the show was probably still on.
btt
Until this thread, I never heard of Moonlight. I have no desire to see it.
These are the people who believe it is their right to run the entire country (and the world).
Yet they can’t even run a rigged ceremony giving each other “Aren’t We Wonderful?” awards.
Lion is a terrific movie. It’s one of those stories that stays with you after it’s over. I enjoyed Saroo’s book, too.
#OscarsSoIncompetent
Nice!
I agree. I think that was back in 1977 or 1978.
I had never heard much about it until this morning. It seems it could have been called “Blackbroke Mountain.”
A couple of self absorbed, self loathing, white liberal SJWs virtue signalling they are down with the struggle?
