Last Night in Sweden

Well, I knew I shouldn't have said anything. A few days ago I bragged in this space about having overcome my years-long addiction to the New York Times. Then, in the wake of President Trump's remark on Saturday in Melbourne, Florida, about “last night in Sweden,” I noticed on Facebook that the Times had run a “news story” by one Sewell Chan headlined “‘Last Night in Sweden’? Trump’s Remark Baffles a Nation.” I couldn't resist.   As it turned out, of course, Trump hadn't baffled the entire Swedish nation. What had really happened was that a great many members of the Swedish establishment – politicians, journalists, business and academic elites, and so on – had professed that they were baffled. “Sweden? Terror attack? What has he been smoking?” asked former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt. Chan himself maintained that some news media (those, you understand, that lean right and have less rigorous journalistic standards than than the august Times) had presented “numerous exaggerations and distortions” about Sweden, “including false reports that Shariah law was predominant in parts of the country and that some immigrant-heavy neighborhoods were considered 'no-go zones' by the police.” (False reports, min röv.) Chan went on to quote various Swedish officials who roundly denied that Muslim immigrants had had a significant impact on crime and rape statistics.

Hey, if Minitrue, who is bringing in these savages hand over fist says nothing is wrong, then Trump must be mistaken. After all, 2 + 2 = 5. Orwellian indeed...

The Poles migrated where there were jobs (Iceland was also a destination of Poles). I would argue over the East German thing...it’s very rare that some German (east or west type) does some job hunt deal in England. Present unemployment in Germany is the lowest of almost EU member.

Go look at the demographic layers for UK, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands Belgium and France. Almost every country has at least one-hundred ethnic groups existing. Go and ask locals where the migrants (not just Muslims) tend to locate...it’s all in highly urbanized areas. They follow the same trend that you’d see in Chicago or any US urban area. The middle-class and upper-class note the urban problem, and start to move outside of the metropolitan area (miles and miles away). So you end up with a decaying urban picture and cops looking over their shoulder.

In the UK case...competent Pole plumbers/electricians came in...offered dirt-rate pay-scale and Brit companies weren’t going to be competitive. You have the same issue in Germany where the Poles took over projects and did the work for less.

The media is greedy to find "gotcha" moments to use against Trump, the magical comment that will finally, finally take him out once and for all - and they fall for the trap over and over. Like Charlie Brown & Lucy with the football - over and over.
