Burger King and Tim Horton's owner Restaurant Brands International is nearing a deal to acquire Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, according to a Reuters report.
First reported last week, the deal could help the Georgia-based Popeyes reach more global diners and boost Restaurant Brands' already strong roster of restaurants. A deal could be announced as early as this week, sources told Reuters.
Shares of Restaurant Brands were slightly positive on Monday, while shares of Popeyes were slightly negative.
Some analysts have welcomed the idea of a deal.

Personally, I see Popeyes running out of chicken, I see a good reason to riot and burn. It’s a crime!
Hey, it's not an either-or. Popeye's ... Chick-fil-A ... the Colonel ... Wendy's ... the sheer culinary genius, delicate nuances of flavor, and stupendous range of the American fried chicken franchise oeuvre puts to shame anything in global cuisine. The French are so far in the back of the bus that they can't even smell the good cookin' up front. The only thing that comes close to American fried chicken would be pizza, but pizza wasn't perfected until it reached the U.S., so that's another case of Yankee genius.
I actually got into an argument with a Kentucky native over which state’s fried chicken is best.
Maybe we can get more meat on the thighs.
Please no Hillary pictures!
I’ve seen this before. Major company buys smaller company which specializes in delicious cajun meals. The first think they do is Yankeefy the menu to make it more palatable to northeasterners and make the food offerings less spicy and more bland. I’m sure the portions will be smaller also because some dietician will tell them that the offerings are unhealthy.
After that, sales will plummet and the stupid yankee management will blame the customers instead of themselves.
The same thing happened to Joe’s Crab Shack restaurants and a small company that made frozen gumbo kits. Bigger companies bought them and ruined the recipes until the entities failed.
Mrs. rktmans red beans and rice are the best I’ve ever had. Not just because she’s Mrs. rktman either. LOL! But, only Camilla red beans seem to work right so we have to get them shipped in from the NOLA area.
Years ago, Kentucky Fried chicken was the best, juiciest and tastiest chicken I have ever tasted. Now it’s dry and fairly tasteless. Popeyes is better but nowhere near what Colonel Sanders originally created.
I was expecting to see riots.
I think a couple of the women would have joined any mayhem. Funny how the men are much calmer.
I lived near the Bonnabel Blvd boat launch in Metairie back then, so I often saw Al and his team launching the various boats, including the turbine-powered catamaran.
I recall that he and his family retained control of the proprietary spice mix (produced in two facilities so nobody had the entire recipe) used by the restaurants and continued supplying that after he lost control of the larger corporation. I'm not sure if that's still the case.
We cruised by his place one time to see his Lambo Countach(IF I remember correctly?) sitting in the driveway. He had a good time with all his toys.
Don't understand the fascination with Joe's.
Off topic but I find it hilarious when I am at the beach, which is often, of all the great local seafood available, people eat at Red Lobster. Bwahahahahaahaha!!
Popeyes has gone downhill in my area. The chicken is bordering on freeze-dried. I think they forgot to reconstitute it the last time I went (and forked over $35 for a family meal). Others have said the same.
Their sides and biscuits are consistent. In fact, I asked my brother to pick some up on his way over Sunday while I went to another joint for chicken only.
He had that building by I-10 and Causeway set up like a showroom, with some of his toys lit up so people could see them at night. There were very, very few exotic cars in New Orleans back then.
LOL! Yeah, NOLA streets aren’t really conducive to low riders are they? Always an interesting ride down Almonaster.
Among African Americans, Churchs Chicken is favorite, with Checkers and Rally’s second, and Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits third. Popeye’s ranks highest among Hispanics.
Hispanics are however divided with their two most popular chicken restaurants being Pollo Tropical (more Caribbean oriented Hispanic) and El Pollo Loco (more Mexican and central American Hispanic).
So if BK is making a push for the Hispanic market, they will likely have to change the menu, and even the name, of Popeye’s. Since Mexicans far outnumber other Hispanics in the US, this will mean moving to popular Mexican chicken dishes.

Mr. Copeland lived in a very nice house at the intersection of Transcontinental Blvd and Folse Dr with the Lake Ponchtrain levee in his back yard. Every Christmas he had a huge dislay of lights, etc placed in the front yard that drew lots of traffic to the neighborhood from all over Orleans Parish. Created one hell of a traffic jam in the neighborhood.
My best friend from high school lived across the street and got invited to the annual Copeland Christmas party along with the other neighbors. Copeland liked cars and there were always some very nice models to take a look at.
The Great Flood of August, 2016 inundated the Popeye’s in Denham Springs< La and it still has not reopened. Miss the store very much and at this it looks like the store will not reopen at all.
The few times I have entered a Popeye’s near me I was the only white person in attendance.
