Liberals may feel energized by a surge in political activism, and a unified stance against a president they see as irresponsible and even dangerous. But that momentum is provoking an equal and opposite reaction on the right. In recent interviews, conservative voters said they felt assaulted by what they said was a kind of moral Bolshevism — the belief that the liberal vision for the country was the only right one. Disagreeing meant being publicly shamed.

Protests and righteous indignation on social media and in Hollywood may seem to liberals to be about policy and persuasion. But moderate conservatives say they are having the opposite effect, chipping away at their middle ground and pushing them closer to Mr. Trump.

“The name calling from the left is crazy,” said Bryce Youngquist, 34, who works in sales for a tech start-up in Mountain View, Calif., a liberal enclave where admitting you voted for Mr. Trump is a little like saying in the 1950s that you were gay. “They are complaining that Trump calls people names, but they turned into some mean people.”

Not saying that that wouldn't be a good thing. If Trump is going to succeed in years 3 and 4 (the hardest years to gain ground in a four year term) he has to remake the pigslop of the republican traitor party.

Same here. I was a nevertrumper and am still not a big fan (though I like most of what he’s actually done). However, the best thing about Trump is what his election has done to the left. They had a Democratic pollster on Fox yesterday who worked in the Clinton White House that was saying the same thing. He said the Democrats have taken such a hard left turn that he doesn’t even recognize his party anymore.

In high school, I'd absorbed a form of leftism from my surroundings. The influences in my life were mixed, and this leftism of mine was largely fiscal (it never included calling for "abortion rights"). But if I could've voted during high school, I would've easily voted for the Democrats.

My political beliefs are a result of thought about what is true and good. They aren't a simple reaction to name-calling from the left.

Instead, name-calling from the left helped to start me thinking about my political beliefs. By my freshman year in college or maybe my senior year in high school, I noticed that the same leftists who professed to be open-minded and tolerant didn't quite speak and act that way when referring to conservatives. So my thinking began then.

My tagline, "When he is being rude or mean it drives people away from his confession and towards yours," comes from the profile page for the Religion Moderator. I use this tagline mostly because of what happens in our religious threads, but its wider application hasn't escaped my notice.

Yes, I still probably would've "converted" sometime if leftists were (or seemed to be) genuinely friendly and civil people. Leftism is flawed, and I've never based my view of a belief on how nice its advocates are. Even so, I don't mind having converted earlier than others did.

If the current manifestations of leftism help others start their thinking too, I'm happy to welcome them.
