Many African-Americans are expressing outrage over a testy exchange between President Donald Trump and a veteran black journalist, with many considering the incident to be the latest indication of his inability to relate to them.
Already skeptical of Trump, many blacks said they were exasperated by the fact that, during his news conference on Thursday, the new president asked April Ryan, longtime White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, to help broker a meeting for him with black lawmakers.
"Will you meet with the Congressional Black Caucus?" Ryan asked. Trump responded: "I would. You want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?"
The exchange set off a firestorm on social media as many black people balked at Trump's suggestion of an assumed relationship between Ryan and CBC members because they are of the same race.
Susan Rice, U.N. ambassador under the Obama administration, tweeted an article about the incident and called Trump's remarks "notably offensive."
"I'm also really pleased he didn't ask her to sweep and mop in the room where the press conference was being held," Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, a former CBC chairman, quipped during an MSNBC interview on Friday.
Adding to the ire: It was the second time in less than 30 days and during Black History Month that Trump said something that came across as indifferent toward black people. The president was ridiculed Feb. 1 for praising abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who died in 1895, as someone "who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more."
After Thursday's news conference, the CBC tweeted a copy of a letter, dated Jan. 19 and addressed to Trump, requesting a meeting. The caucus said although it got no response to that letter,

Watch the ABC news clip.
You can see how they changed the story from what really happened to something that smears Trump. They cut his answer so he only gives the first part. Then they spliced in a congressman who says its racist to ask a back women to set up your meetings with black congressman.
They leave out that she was the only one who asked the question. And that he had tried to set up a meeting earlier. They also leave out the fact that he chose from the back of the room to pick her question out.
Its important to the media that Republicans can never show kindness to African Americans.
The perpetually offended are beyond tiring . . .
She could have been asked to “mop floors” and he would be glad to show her “how” if necessary.
I liked it when President Trump said he thought he had a meeting set up Rep Cummings until that “lightweight” Schumer got involved.
...snip...The veteran Washington journalist, however, appeared to a bit more than a chronicler of current events during last years presidential campaign. Emails pilfered from Clinton campaign Chairman John Podestas email account and published in the fall by WikiLeaks suggest a rather chummy relationship between Ryan and the Clinton camp.
At one point, she even suggested a meeting with members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
FYI I also just talked with Marcia Fudge and Sheila Jackson Lee, she wrote on April 18, 2015, referring to representatives from Ohio and Texas, respectively. Also, Lets make the black reporters meeting happen asap.

“I would. You want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?”
Look at the quote dumbasses! He did not assume she knew them because they were the same color.
AR is a known democratic operative ... exposed by WikiLeaks.
“Many”?
“Outraged”?
And just how does a Yahoo News “reporter” know this? “Outraged” over THIS? And is “many” just a few who actually bothered to show their immaturity and own bias against Trump?
Screw em, Mister President. Only 8% voted for you after twice voting in large numbers for that POS Obambi. With a 72% illegitimacy rate and crime/murder out the azz, they have a lot more to be worrying about rathe than this “Trumped up” nonsense
There’s a reason why they are at the bottom of the socio economic barrel. And they should look at their own lives, conduct and values rather than continually blame others who have nothing to do with their situation
Big deal. Since she’s a flaming lib and hater, and the CBC are flaming libs and haters, and they share melanin content, it’s not unreasonable to ask if she knows them. Yes or no would have been an appropriate response.
Watermelon flavored?
Many Caucii.
That’s right! I forgot (so many names).
So now it makes me wonder if he was trolling her.
This is the same Susan Rice who still thinks Benghazi was the result of a video.
The faces we see on TV, in sports, in the movies, are now majority black or nearly so. When did a white person last sing the national anthem at a game?
They are starting to believe themselves the majority and that the cities & the ‘hoods are the real America.
Trump exchange with black journalist sparks outrage
Black journalists will get their undies in a bunch over anything. I bet they are upset because the moon isn’t black. Rather insignificant anyway. It is only BLM that will read them anyway.
Racism is being practiced in the hallowed halls of Congress. It exhibits itself in the form of THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS. One can only belong to this group if you are black. No other races need apply. How can there ever be racial harmony as long as this organization exists and promotes victimization at every perceived opportunity.
Fake news.
I watched the exchange in real time - and then on youtube.
Trump challenged the reporter fairly.
This is much ado about nothing.
I believe it was on the Fox panel yesterday where the observation was made (and I paraphrase) that when you are outraged by everything the president does and every appointment he makes, your outrage begins to fall on deaf ears.
Fu*k the Liberal Black Community! I’m beyond sick of the “Angry Black Man” and “Angry Black Women” shtick!
Susan Rice says: NOTABLY OFFENSIVE. This, the lady who gave us fake videos...and carries a HUGE chip on her shoulder, and interprets things in he own narrow minded world of darker pigment. She needs to crawl out of the hole, see the light, and start the change process. Susan....tell the CBC, which Trump so rightly asked her to tell everyone what was the CBC, the Congressional Black Caucus, and WHY won’t they sit down and talk about their issues with the President of the USA when he is offering to listen. The Never Trump people have come to terms, as well as some very offended people during the campaign. But it is time to talk. So Susan, part 2 of Frederick Douglass Auto Biography was about DESCRIMINATION, and he said that for the MOST part, the folks of darker pigment needed to change the perceptions that others have of them, but conducting themselves in a manner that commanded respect and dignity.
