NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A total of 18 people were fired from one business after joining the nation-wide protest "A Day Without Immigrants."
Thousands of people participated in the movement across the country, including people in Middle Tennessee.
In Nolensville, nearly 20 employees at Bradley Coatings, Incorporated told their supervisors on Wednesday they'd be taking part as well. Then, on Thursday they were told they no longer had jobs.
"We are the team leaders directly under the supervisors and they informed us last night that we could not go back to work and the boss said we were fired," one employee told us.
The former employee asked to remain anonymous but had this message to his former boss.
"I would tell him he was unfair, after working for them for so many years, gave him our best. They could not understand that it was just one day. We were going to make up that day on a Sunday, but they didn't understand that, and it was not the best way. They didn't give us an opportunity and just told us we were fired," he said.
"Tennessee is an employment-at-will state which basically means an employer can end your employment at any time without reason or cause. Of course, there are a lot of different stipulations, civil rights issues that could stop them from doing that," Department of Labor and Workforce Development spokesman, Chris Cannon said.
Bradley Coatings, Inc.'s attorney released the following statement:
"Bradley Coatings, Incorporated (BCI) is a family-owned, Nashville-based business that provides commercial painting services to its clients on a very demanding schedule. Established in 1986, BCI has always celebrated diversity and supported the immigrant community. This past Wednesday night, certain employees of BCI informed their leadership that they would not be at work the following day. Because of the time-sensitive nature of the jobs these employees were assigned to, all employees were told that they would need to show up for work or they would be terminated. On Thursday, the majority of BCIs employees fulfilled their obligations to our clients, but eighteen employees did not. Regretfully, and consistent with its prior communication to all its employees, BCI had no choice but to terminate these individuals. The reason these employees missed workto engage in peaceful demonstrationshad nothing to do with BCIs decision to terminate them. BCI regrets this situation, but it has contracted with its clients to complete work on a schedule set by the clients general contractor. BCI will review its procedures in an effort to avoid similar issues in the future, and will continue to provide timely service to its clients and support to the Nashville immigrant community." - Robert Peal, Company Attorney
Maybe it is like the Hollywood promos for some epic film - "A cast of thousands!":
Herman Thousands
Mary Thousands
Little Jimmy Thousands
etc.
Since we heard nothing but noise about this “day without immigrants”
We can only presume it was an absolute FLOP
“That was the last class that they had.”
The more people differ, diverse things get.
Absolutely. No doubt the missing workers would have put their schedule behind and maybe cost them business or damage to the company reputation. Jerks.
These illegal alien invaders need to learn that this is America not Mehico.
Indeed/. “Diversity” has caused a whole lotta conflicts and deaths in history.
That’s nothing to “celebrate”
Good deal.
I attended TWO of these classes. one at university and one at work when i was an intern. I “attended” /signed as they were MANDATORY but walked out after 5 minutes.
My professor then ridiculed me in front of the class “Well, (max) here just walked out even though I stated it was mandatory”
MY RETORT: “yes sir it was mandatory and I did stay. However where did it say on the announcement we had to stay for the entire time?” Had to leave that class before he gave me a failing grade.
I worked at a paper mill for 3.5 years. This mentality is typical - as if the employees can make their own rules and come and go as they please and the evil management just didn't understand their cause.
This day without immigrants is just one of the many agit-prop Alinsky tactics that the left uses, hiding their real agenda under the guise of lawful immigration.
20 people on the same day gave notice they would not be working the next day?
Yer fired.
Seems like you want to make new friends and go places well, there you go.
Now, if 20 of you wanted to do this and gave us ample notice, we could have accommodated your request.
As it is, you imperiled the work of your colleagues and that makes you Self serving dicks.
Awesome!

...
I believe you were warned just like Reagan warned the air traffic controllers.
When I lived in Mexifornia every May 1 we had a day without a Mexican. It was wonderful! I went to stores without screaming brats running around, the merchandise was still on the shelves, and people were speaking English and were polite. It’s really one of the reasons I knew I had to move back to the US.
And of course they held their little pouting fest on the communist holiday! But they cared so little about the country they came to screw over, that they just didn’t show up to work and got drunk instead. Yes, that’s the type of people we need isn’t it /s
Hahaha! The illegals need to call “Nine-Juan-Juan”.
“Ice, ice, baby!”
Well, there it is. BCI celebrates their workers regardless of who they are or where they come from. They were rewarded with a walkout.
Yeah, "just one day." But they dictated the terms to their bosses and, if they got away with it, what's to prevent them from making other demands on their employer's good nature?
OOh that is so good!! Kudos to you. :)
Well, I live in SoCal and I totally forgot it was happening. Didn’t notice a thing different.
Last time they staged a Day Without Mexicans, it was great. No crowds, no traffic, no long lines.

BCI needs to review all of its employees for legality before ICE does.
