At the urging of parents and others from the College Park neighborhood, the Orange County School Board voted 7-1 to change the name during a regular meeting Tuesday night.

Surely this will rocket the school to the top of the achievement list for Florida public schools. I imagine there will be a line of new enrollees wanting to partake of the excellence College Park Middle School will present to students.

It’s actually an insult to Robert E. Lee to have a public screwel named after him.
So when will we start changing the names of any building named after Washington or Jefferson or Madison or...??
They are not worthy of the name. So let them take it down.

With Blacks and Hispanics mired in educational mediocrity, but the NAACP and similar groups and unable and unwilling to do battle for reform against obstructionist teacher unions, symbolic victories must be found to give the appearance of effort and progress. With the name of dead Confederate Robert E. Lee purged, will the renamed College Park Middle School improve the quality of instruction as measured by its student test scores? Of course not!
