John Dickerson, anchor of CBS's "Face the Nation," disagrees with reporters who say President Trump is eroding the national media's credibility.
In a radio interview Friday, conservative host Hugh Hewitt referred to the previous day's press conference at the White House, in which Trump laid into the news media and told reporters in the room that the public cannot trust them.
"But that one comment, they don't trust you anymore, is a summation of where we are in America, because I really do think Manhattan-Beltway elites have lost the country," Hewitt said. "They've lost it."
Dickerson agreed.
"Yes, it's true, and it's not because of anything obviously Donald Trump did. The press did all that good work ruining its reputation on its own, and we can have a long conversation about what created that," Dickerson said.
"Part of it, though, is what you mentioned about the local weather report, which is to say a lot of hysterical coverage about every little last thing that doesn't warrant it," he added.
After Thursday's press conference, which lasted more than an hour, many in the media said Trump's broadsides against the press were hurting the country.
"This not a laughing matter," NBC "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd said on Twitter after the conference. "I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican."
Try MUCH further back--Walter Duranty's reports for the New York Times from the Soviet Union during the very height of the forced collectivization of farms between 1928 and 1934 that ended up killing over 14 million people from famine, mass shootings, labor camps and forced exile.
NBC "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd said on Twitter after the conference. "I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican."
What a steaming pile of self-serving BS.
Plus, it's just a sloppy remark all around. When does "criticism" cross over into "deligitimizing," and how exactly can an entity that is KNOWN to be honest, be hurt by criticism? Who is responsible for the hooker being held in disrespect? The public, or the hooker? The critic, or the hooker?
And when Trump wrongly calls out an individual, they can sue him for defamation.
Still, at rock bottom, Todd and most of the rest of the press is keen on perpetuating the"objective journalism myth," which, if accepted, gives them power that they have always abused.
Screw him. Screw NBC. They are liars. Big fat liars. And they know it.
Started doing so YEARS ago.
Exploding trucks on NBC?
Dan Rathers typewriter from the future?
Nailed It !
Indeed, Trump only told the press to get its act together as it was threatening the press itself. Criticizing the press is not what deligitimizes it, debauching it is what does as Obama did.
Some have even started not bothering to mentioning the “trans” aspect when they talk about certain asserted men or women.
1) Chuck Todd is un-American because he lies and misrepresents from a position that is expected to be truthful.
2) John Dickerson is a phony, I watched today on CBS “This Morning” and he misrepresented a handful of items that even I was more informed than he was.
Captain Planet and the Eco Terrorists
You’re right. They’ve been peddling outright propaganda for pretty much as long as the USSR existed and continued on after it fell. No wonder they’re losing it now, their erstwhile controllers have veered to the right and they fear exposure. So, they dredge up the old Red Scare tactics of the 50’s that they mocked so unmercifully then, thinking that they’re going to rally the rubes to their side. Ludicrous.
When the latest SNL skit is closer to the truth than a nightly news report, the media has a problem.
And OBAMA DEBAUCHED the press, inducing them to do it with Megan Kelly like courtroom “cutes”.
This destruction of the press and fiat-fake-money-fiat-press is not Trump’s!!! Enough said.
Trump should go after the fiat money and the fake press, the frauds destroying it
I agree with the comment about the local weather reports. Every little cloud is reported as “BREAKING NEWS: STORMWATCH!”
Predictable dry spells become “CATASTROPHIC DROUGHT!”
Cyclical floods are called “UNPRECEDENTED!”
And, of course, all weather events are now PROOF!!! of global warming.
And these jackasses wonder why people don’t respect them anymore?
Yes, I remember that from the 80’s. Ted Turner’s creation.
My daughter, born in 1986, watched a couple of times when she was a kid, and said of it: THIS IS STUPID!........................
I think most of these networks have at least one token noos man who seems to have an opposing view from the 99% of their staff.
Just like they have a fake conservatives (who often takes less than conservative positions) i guess so they can claim they are fair? Or, maybe just to create confusion?
AP report that somebody spit on Cummings after Obamacare was passed. Fiction.
And this "Trump is in bed with the Russians" is another fabrication.
Well, the goal was to insert a proverbial spigot into a child’s head, turn it on, drain out the brain and leave it a mere drooling enemy of capitalism and industry.
“Dont laugh! This is not a laughing matter!!!! Chuck Todd tweeted so.”
Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I literally laughed out loud at you up-Chuck!! You’re hilarious!! Why don’t you make me stop laughing at you, ass-clown?
For once I agree with F. Upchuck Todd! Delegitimizing the the Press IS un-American and he along with the rest of the lying liberal lamestream media oughtta stop doing it!
Report the news. Straight. Period.
Stop the spin. Stop presenting your bias as truth and that those who disagree are bigots, racists and worse. This is *exactly* why no one trusts the media anymore.
Chuck Todd calling himself and fellow reporters "un-American" may be the first time he's truthful and accurate in his career.
At Indiana University, the School of Journalism is located in Pyle Hall. I’ll bet not one in five students know why it bears that name.
I have a feeling the Press is about to enter into a period of internecine warfare among it’s most prominent members akin to the partisan warfare in upstate South Carolina during the Revolutionary War.
